Your Opportunity

Stantec is looking for the newest members of our environmental services team in the Yellowknife, Northwest Territories area to specifically support environmental monitoring, remediation, buildings and civil engineering projects, planning, and permitting opportunities. This work includes supporting both small local projects and larger opportunities related to new developments. Working in our Northern Offices means being exposed to a wide variety of projects, as our teams work closely together on environmental, remediation, civil construction, and engineering projects. Our Northern group works closely with Indigenous and/or Inuit communities on almost every project and we are also proud to deliver work in the North through our Indigenous Partnerships Nunami Stantec Limited and K’alo-Stantec Limited.

In this role, you will work as part of our Environmental Services team in the development and delivery of environmental studies for a variety of resource, infrastructure, and development projects in our local community and across the territories. Working closely with our senior technicians, scientists and engineers, you will have opportunities for field work relating to science, engineering, and construction. There will be a variety of projects that require both field and reporting support. This is an entry-level position; however, there are many exciting opportunities for growth.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and assist project managers and team members including biologists, archaeologists, engineers, planners, and environmental scientists.

  • Conduct desktop project-related research (e.g., historical data, regulations, literature reviews) using a Stantec supplied computer.

  • Complete applicable company and client required health & safety training and follow health & safety policies and procedures.

  • Participate in environmental and engineering field work such as water sampling, biological field studies, and/or archaeology under the supervision of experienced professionals.

  • Support environmental remediation projects.

  • Support spill response projects with tasks including environmental monitoring.

  • Conduct both active layer water/groundwater and surface water sampling along with drilling programs, soil logging and sampling.

  • Assist with onsite construction observation, contractor coordination, and daily inspection reports.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience living and/or working in Indigenous communities with a knowledge of local cultural and historical context in Canada is an asset.

  • Willingness to learn new skills, have flexibility in undertaking work assignments and capable of handling multiple assignments.

  • Experience in the collection and reporting of field data is an asset.

  • Able to work effectively both in a team atmosphere and independently as required.

  • A willingness to travel throughout the North and work extended hours in remote locations and/or in a camp environment is an asset.

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license is an asset.

Education and Experience

  • Current enrollment and/or completion of a technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in an environmental related field is an asset.

  • Stantec will provide role specific training, along with a laptop, cellphone, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Travel to and from each community and accommodation in the communities you are working in will be covered while working. Work schedules may vary depending on project.
