Your Opportunity

We are currently looking for a Civil Technologist or Civil Engineer-in-Training with bridge and/or culvert related experience to join the Yellowknife Civil Engineering Team for a full-time position. You will work closely with an impressive team of engineers and technologists, primarily performing field construction review and Quality Assurance monitoring services.

Your responsibilities will include preparation and coordination of technical activities on assigned, primarily bridge and transportation infrastructure projects. This includes assistance in the preparation of plans and schedules, conducting and coordinating assigned engineering work, monitoring work for compliance to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices and standards, and ensuring effective communication and coordination on assigned projects between other project participants, including architects, engineers, developers, contractors, and clients.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Construction QA Monitoring and Review.

  • Liaising between project owners, contractors, and the design team.

  • Assisting in resolution of technical issues on construction sites through guidance from the project engineer(s).

  • Reporting: You will be required to regularly complete detailed field inspection checklists/reports, and general daily construction progress reports, and submit them using various systems.

  • Operations: You will be expected to support team operations and play an integral part in the success of the project. Promotion of our health and safety culture, client relations, training and mentoring of more junior staff, equipment and resources maintenance and management, and other related duties will be expected.

Your Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform due diligence and research on project specifications, guidelines, and codes as required to understand the background information to ensure project compliance.

  • Assists in the preparation of plans and reports for relevant project design elements under the guidance and supervision of a licensed professional engineer. Also receives direction and assistance from technologists.

  • Perform more complex engineering design tasks on assigned projects under the supervision of a Project Engineer or Project Manager, including engineering drawings, engineering reports and required applications to regulatory agencies.

  • Utilize Civil 3D to prepare exhibits and complex working drawings. Continue to develop skills using software programs for design and/or drafting.

  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions including notification of supervisor and seeking assistance.

  • Responsible for organizing all aspects of field submittals and deliverables.

  • Assisting in the preparation of engineering project proposals and change orders.

  • Assisting in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.

  • Attendance at and assistance with client/contractor/stakeholder meetings.

  • Additional field work as required, including topographic survey and basic material testing.

  • Bridge and/or culvert field inspections.

  • Cross discipline project assistance as required.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Previous bridge inspection and/or construction review and resident engineer experience is considered an asset but not necessarily required.

  • Energetic, team-oriented player with a commitment to superior client service.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and to communicate effectively with technical and management personnel remotely.

  • Ability to work up to 12 hours per day, for shifts lasting up to multiple weeks (weekend and overtime work will be required).

  • Available to work on remote, out of town projects, typically 1 to 3 week shifts but can be longer at times.

  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

  • A valid Driver's License is required.

Education and Experience

  • Possess a Civil Engineering Diploma at an accredited post-secondary institution. Minimum 1-year experience.

Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather and can be physically demanding. Some time will be spent in a typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for periods of time. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
