Your Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join our Winnipeg based team as a Contract Administrator. The successful candidate will work on challenging and diverse tasks within an integrated team of design professionals by leading the contract administration and oversight phase of the project. The role requires application of technical skills, project delivery focus, and leadership on behalf of the team during construction projects.

Our projects are diverse, transformational, and integral to building community. They could be underground infrastructure (water and wastewater pipelines), treatment facilities (water treatment and/or wastewater treatment), pumpstations, or any other facility that our clients want constructed.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Understand that safety is a non-negotiable part of our day.

  • Review, implement, and interpret the form of construction contract chosen for the project.

  • Monitor performance of the General Contractor in meeting or exceeding established standards for safety and quality.

  • Provide guidance to the contractor by interpreting the contract documents, answering questions verbally and, when required coordinating and leading the design teams response, issuing necessary documentation including supplemental instructions, proposed changes, change directives or change orders to allow the progress of work on site.

  • Coordinating Contractor’s submittals, which are typically shop drawings. Coordination includes document handling, assignment of review to the appropriate internal technical resources, follow-up, and distribution of completed reviews.

  • Lead the analysis and interpretation of the contractor’s Payment Application and issue Progress Payment Recommendations.

  • Review coordinate, and obtain Sealing Professionals Letters of Substantial Performance, Interim Occupancy, and Final Occupancy.

  • Process contract close-outs including coordinating and leading the design teams review of O & M’s, as-builts, deficiency walk throughs and deficiency lists, and any required warranty follow up.

  • As required, provide oversight of reviewers on assigned projects supporting the administration of the construction contract.

  • Communicate and makes recommendations to the Project Manager, Client, and design team to resolve site issues.

  • Provide a public relations role to the public on construction projects, when applicable.

  • Prepare documents and maintain file management of project-related information including correspondence, reports, and pictures.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • A minimum of 10 years of work experience in a municipal, rural or remote construction environment.

  • Have a CCCA (Certified Construction Contract Administrator) designation or related experience

  • Willing and comfortable travelling to remote project sites

  • Working knowledge of local and provincial specifications, construction principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.

  • Committed and enjoys working in an environment to understand and solve problems quickly and efficiently.

  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.

  • Ability to prepare and interpret sketches, and other similar material.

  • Excellent knowledge of building construction systems, constructability, materials, and industry associated standards.

  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the project team, obtaining and sharing necessary information.

  • Demonstrated organizational, administrative, and decision-making skills required to effectively handle changing priorities and project deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work efficiently and effectively within a team and independently.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products.

  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.

  • Working knowledge of critical path method scheduling.

  • A valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for this position.

  • Travel is required on a regular basis to project sites potentially on short notice. Project sites are generally located within Manitoba and Northwest Ontario and travel to site is either by vehicle or plane.

Education and Experience

  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate in the construction industry or equivalent in a contract administration role with supervisory responsibility.
