Your Opportunity

Stantec is looking for Intermediate CAD Designer with design experience in large utility-scale renewable projects including conceptual and detailed design of electrical site layouts, AC and DC collection systems for large ground-mount solar to join our team in Waterloo, ON. This position can be located out of any of Stantec's south or central Ontario offices.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support the overall electrical design, prioritizing quality while meeting deliverable deadlines, monitoring project scope, and adhering to project budgets

  • Collaborate with project manager and/or design team lead to provide status updates, identify additional scope, or request additional resources.

  • Review project documentation including client technical and design specifications.

  • Develop Solar Layout drawings using CAD software

  • Generate a variety of design calculations including but not limited to Voltage drop losses and cable sizing using tools in Excel.

  • Support team by checking for accuracy and completeness of project deliverables and drawings.

  • Accomplish solutions through application of industry standards and electrical engineering design principles specifically in renewable energy systems, including photovoltaic (PV), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and power systems.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD is required. Civil 3D would be viewed as favorable.

  • Sound understanding of electrical DC design is required, AC is an asset.

  • Good understanding of design standards and codes for electrical power systems an asset

  • Experience with renewable energy systems, including photovoltaic (PV).

  • Knowledge of one-line drawings, elementary and wiring diagrams, equipment specifications (including transformers, MCC, switchgear, substation equipment); power plans, conduit plans, cable schedules is an asset

  • Knowledge, interpretation, and application of Canadian Electrical Code, National Electrical Code and applicable energy codes would be an asset.

  • Participates and collaborates in a project team setting to engage in creative and critical thought

  • A self-starter/initiator, Quality and detail minded

  • Attentive to project scope, schedule, budget and delivering a high-quality product

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines

Education and Experience

  • Technical diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Electrical Design using AutoCAD.

  • Experience in electrical distribution, Photovoltaic systems is preferred.

  • Prior experience in consulting for an owner or EPC contactor is welcome.

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
