Your Opportunity

An opportunity is available for a Civil Engineering Technician / Technologist to join our Infrastructure Management and Pavement Engineering (IMPE) team in Waterloo, Ontario, beginning in May 2019.

Your Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will demonstrate initiative and will excel under minimal supervision. You will be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and skilled in delivering on your commitments. You will work with a team of engineers/scientists and other technologists/technicians performing general geotechnical and non-destructive pavement evaluations. This position may involve travel ranging from a few days to a few weeks. Training will be provided to the successful applicant. In brief, positions and duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform / assist with pavement investigations including visual distress surveys, ground penetrating radar, falling weight deflectometer and geotechnical investigations.

  • Collect accurate and complete field data while ensuring quality and consistency

  • Keep detailed project records and be responsible for organizing your work in the office and field

  • Enter pavement investigation data for analysis

  • Assist Project Managers with data analysis and Quality Control/Assurance of pavement performance data

  • Other general field related duties

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Sound technical background and are willing to take on a diversity of tasks which may include both field and office work.

  • An understanding of transportation engineering, and more specifically pavement materials and pavement assessment procedures, would be an asset alongside previous experience with geotechnical investigations and/or pavement data collection

  • Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities

  • Demonstrates initiative and excels under minimal supervision

  • Valid Ontario ‘G’ Driver’s License

  • Demonstrate a strong working proficiency with the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office products

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a related academic background and work experience that includes:

Effective communications skills (computer, written, oral)

Civil Engineering Diploma would be considered an asset
