Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a registered professional engineer to support our client with oversight of global engineering and technical procedures, standards and support for our client’s 14 MM sqft commercial facilities portfolio, and for functional consultation with our client. This position will be the subject matter expert (SME) for commercial building design, construction, operations and maintenance across for client. Position provides expert counsel to client’s managed and non-managed facilities. Implementing these processes and gaining traction across will require personal leadership, influence, and engagement at all levels of the organization. Role must have excellent communication, strong change leadership / change management and influencing skills.

This is an exciting position working within our Energy business operating unit through Secondment. The ideal candidate will be located in Houston TX, San Ramon CA or Walnut Creek CA.

Your Key Responsibilities

Engineering Design Review

  • Consult on building design. Use our client’s benchmarking tool to inform trade-off discussions for overall building design and cost, materials & methods, infrastructure design (reliability and redundancy), safety in design, service and maintenance access and life-cycle cost.

  • Review design and construction documents for projects for compatibility with established engineering practice, codes and standards, safety, maintainability.

  • Support the creation of new technical standards and guidelines to support facility operations. Frame new project/opportunity to bring CRE our client’s portfolio operational/design technologies in line with latest industry practices.

  • Review and advise on Management of Change (MOC) documentation for proposed changes.

  • Technical reviews cover the full range of engineering disciplines, particularly given the resource limited CRE RE Ttechnical function.

  • This position requires individuals with practical application experience across the range of engineering disciplines (mechanical plumbing, electrical, structural, civil, control systems, etc.), and relationships with established SME’s they can leverage when needed.

  • Review design/build packages from outside developers for technical and commercial content and advise CRE our client of the relative benefits and risks of the various proposals.

Consultation/Problem Solving

  • Respond to inquiries and consult with our client as a subject matter expert in commercial building performance, design, construction, operations and maintenance, and support global, diagnostic problem-solving.

  • Develop and document standardized processes and tools to increase consistency, operating efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Encourage consistent use of standardized processes and tools across the enterprise.

  • Engage outside consultants as needed to resolve complex issues outside area of direct expertise.

  • Participate in various functional Communities of Practice, and interface with other corporate SME’s

Commissioning/Operations Planning

  • Provide technical oversight to commissioning activities for projects and facilitate the formal “acceptance” of completed projects (validate performance as specified).

  • Source and engage outside consultants to support global demand pull from the core business.

  • Provide operations planning support and support formal Operations Readiness Reviews and Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews.

  • Review building performance data to ensure building systems perform as-designed and reliably deliver specified environmental conditions and energy performance.

  • Benchmark building energy performance against Energy Star, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), and other industry standards.

  • Travel and engage in conference calls outside of local business hours, as required to support these activities.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience with designing, deploying and managing building automation and control systems to monitor building performance.

  • Flexible execution, able to manage multiple projects at any given time.

  • Managing multiple projects at different project locations.

  • Requires the ability to read and understand technical documents including legal contracts and new technology.

  • Experienced in writing proposals.

  • Past experience supervising other engineering staff/project teams.

  • Experience with US jurisdictions and their various acts and regulations.

  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.

  • Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Travel to locations throughout the US based client and project needs.

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.

  • Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful passing of a drug screen.

Education and Experience

  • A registered professional engineer with a minimum of 10 years project detail design, management experience in commercial building HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical design; as well as fluency in related disciplines.

  • 10 years of experience in commercial facility management including housekeeping, landscaping, security, preventive maintenance, repair/requested maintenance, utilities/energy management, capital planning and budgeting and facilities planning.

  • 10 years of progressive experience in commercial construction project management.

  • Additional progressive industry qualifications such as registered PE, and other qualifications in various trade associates such as a LEED memberships and other recognition ASHRAE, ccommissioning agent, energy management, project management professional, etc. are a plus.

  • Asset management experience including condition assessment (both transactional due diligence, as well as to support long-term asset management and capital planning), development of multi-year capital renewal/reinvestment strategies, and Facilities Planning.

  • International project and cross-culture operation experience highly desirable.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $123,700 - $185,600 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
