About the role
Our growing Transport and Infrastructure business has an industry-leading reputation. We deliver integrated transportation solutions that link communities and enhance urban and regional environments.
We are now seeking a Business Leader on a full-time basis to join our team based in Melbourne. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue, contribute strategically and work on significant major infrastructure projects.
Reporting to the Business Centre Operating Leader, the Business Leader is responsible for the business operations of the state, encompassing safety leadership, people leadership, client service and operational excellence within their region as part of a shared financial (top line/bottom line) and performance responsibility with the other Business Leaders.
Day to day tasks would involve:
•\tWork with the Business Centre Operating Leader in preparing annual business centre business plans.
•\tResponsible for continuous improvement and effective management of operational areas within their region (resource management, utilisation, overhead control and gross margin management).
•\tOn a monthly basis, review forecasting, backlog, GR, NR, WIP, AFDA, DSO and utilization with the Business Centre Operating Leader and PMCL and drive local actions to address identified issues.
•\tProvide input to the Business Centre Operating Leader for preparing and implementing annual budgets.
•\tResponsible for achieving net revenue, gross margin, G&A, and operating income targets from within their region and as a collective across the Business Leader.
•\tResponsible for proactively identifying underperformance against established targets to the Business Centre Operating Leader and then assisting in developing and implementing improvement plans for underperforming operations as it applies within their region.
•\tPartners with Business Leaders to drive collaboration and work sharing across the Business Centre to meet the overall Business Centre utilisation target.
•\tAct as a highly regarded leader, thought partner and a source of counsel and advice for the Business Centre.
•\tProactively identify opportunities to reinforce and further develop Stantec's high-performance culture with a focus on talent, productivity and financial performance.
•\tReview current and forward workload to understand the right shape and distribution of staff to successfully pursue and deliver work.
•\tMonitor and drive efficiency of staff on billable work to maximise utilisation.
•\tResponsible for regional talent management lifecycle including; recruitment suggestions, career development, employee engagement, succession planning, coaching and mentoring, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development.
•\tDirect reports include Group Leaders, Team Leaders, local project managers, technical leaders, discipline leaders, business development, etc. as required.
•\tWork with project delivery teams and Practice Leaders to drive quality and timely delivery of project deliverables to meet but preferably to exceed client expectations.
•\tEnsure the business delivers work that secures repeat business for valued clients.
•\tResponsible for client relationships, strategic project pursuits and major project leadership within their region.
•\tResponsible to meet sales target set by the Regional Director for the region and the overall sales target set as a collective across the business centre.

To be successful for this role you'll need:
•\tRelevant tertiary qualification, preferably post-graduate
•\tOver 12 years professional experience in the infrastructure field
•\tExperience in managing large teams (>20 people) with direct line management duties
•\tA broad range of skills covering people management, business development, project delivery and business management
•\tHighly developed interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients
•\tHighly developed consulting skills to liaise with clients and other stakeholders to achieve mutually successful project outcomes
•\tWell-developed problem solving and negotiations skills to resolve queries.
