Your Opportunity

As a result of our growing business, we have an immediate opportunity in our downtown Vancouver office for a Junior Structural Engineer. Your role is to perform tasks in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings or other specifications. You shall work under direct supervision and direction of Senior Engineers, as a team member on varying-size and type of projects. You will participate in the development of calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and performing analysis, design, evaluation, reviews of structural components, members, and systems.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and maintain, engineering calculations for the analysis and designs of structures.

  • Develop, organize, and maintain, engineering design details through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.

  • Assist and utilize BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models.

  • Assist in preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.

  • Assist in review of construction RFIs and Submittals and perform construction in-field reviews.

  • Engage in coordination of design activities with other disciplines and team members.

  • Participate in office and project meetings with internal and/or external team members.

  • Assist senior staff with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.

  • Maintaining quality assurance and quality control on own tasks and projects.

  • Assist in the development and maintaining of new standards and specifications for the structural team.

  • Work on multiple projects.

Qualifications

Your Credentials and Capabilities

  • Knowledge and experience in application of the National Building Code, related codes, and standards

  • Knowledgeable of structural systems, construction materials, and industry standards

  • Knowledge and experience in seismic analysis and design of building structures

  • Knowledge and experience in structural analysis-design software such as SAP, ETABS, SAFE and others

  • Experience with Revit, AutoCad is preferred

  • Skilled in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Working knowledge of Power-Bi, Python preferred.

  • Ability to check own’s work for completeness and accuracy

  • Manage own’s time to meet project budget and schedule

  • Perform on-site field reviews and manage construction administration effectively

  • General understanding of the phases of project document production, and relationship between drawings and specifications

  • Self-starter with ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thinking

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with an ability to work either independently or with team members in a multi-disciplinary environment

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with structural concentration; a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.

  • Licensed as an EIT or P. Eng. with EGBC

  • Minimum 3 years of strong North American experience in the structural design of building structures, preferably with significant experience in steel and concrete construction.

  • Experience in construction reviews and report preparation is desirable.

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $73,600 - Lower Mainland $106,600 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
