Our clients come from manufacturing, food & beverage, transit, municipal, and, warehousing/distribution/logistics, and national defense sectors. Some of our project types include new construction and renovation of:

  • Warehouses, Distribution Centres, Fulfillment Centres, and Parcel Sortation Facilities

  • Vehicle maintenance facilities for light rail, heavy rail, bus, fleet, mining, etc.

  • Component manufacturing and assembly facilities

  • Food processing facilities

  • Aircraft hangars

  • Ports and Marine

  • Water and Wastewater

  • Staff support facilities for the above facility types

  • Other industrial facilities

Your Opportunity

Your role as the Mechanical Team Lead within the Industrial Studio, is to manage a team of highly skilled Engineers, Engineers in Training, Technologists, Designers and Co-Op staff successfully execute projects of varying sizes and complexity. The Team Lead role is also responsible for contributing to the development of integrated proposals using your specialized knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards while leading and mentoring others and collaborating with team members to contribute to the final deliverables.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Workload and resource planning for the Industrial Mechanical team, including Engineers, Engineers in Training, Technologists, and Co-Ops.

  • Engages with each of their direct reports to assist with their career development, goal planning, and performance reviews.

  • Internal leadership in design excellence, coaching, recruitment and retention.

  • Can lead and assist in the development of single-discipline and multi-disciplinary proposals.

  • Providing technical input and support, responsible for large projects of high complexity.

  • Providing input into strategic and annual business planning for the Studio.

  • Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all mechanical engineered systems or products for a project.

  • Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams and other visual formats.

  • Utilizes BIM technologies in the development of three-dimensional models of building’s mechanical systems and provides markups for junior engineers.

  • Prepares and revises documentation in various mechanical phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.

  • Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.

  • Participates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.

  • Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.

  • Participates in constructability review.

  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.

  • Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the mechanical group.

  • Develops project scope, budgets, and design approach for all sizes of projects.

  • Oversees and manages multiple projects.

  • Coordinate with other studio discipline leads to ensure resources are allocated and projects are executed.

  • Liaising with other leadership to ensure alignment of corporate goals and effective use of resources and knowledge.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Team player with experience building, leading, and managing teams.

  • Requisite knowledge and application of applicable building codes and applicable building and energy codes.

  • General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.

  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.

  • Must be able to qualify for Security Clearance with the Department of National Defense.

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.

  • Presentation and interview skills are preferred.

  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, Revizto, and heat load calculation software.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering & Licensed Professional Engineer.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience.

  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $103,500 - Lower Mainland $155,200 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
