Stantec’s Environmental Services Practice is looking for a Senior Rail Noise and Vibration Lead to join our Acoustic, Noise and Vibration team. This opportunity is located in Ontario. Our Acoustical engineers provide specialized services to a wide variety of sectors including industry, government, architecture, transportation, and buildings. Our practitioners offer a full suite of services including permitting, monitoring, modeling, planning, policy studies, design, and control.

Your Opportunity

You will perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, corrective action, mining, biology, and other environmental programs. You will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner

Your Key Responsibilities

As the technical lead for our rail noise/vibration work, you will be responsible for all of our rail projects. We will have you as the main client contact, and you will coordinate efforts from our Ontario and Alberta acoustic teams to deliver the work. Work includes rail noise/vibration impact assessments; rail noise/vibration measurements; environmental impact reports for rail noise/vibration; rail noise/vibration design and mitigation engineering; inter-disciplinary, owner and public consultation support and coordination related to rail noise/vibration; lead the development of rail noise/vibration analysis and software/modelling solutions; expert witness support during environmental hearings.

This is a coveted role where you will be the main rail noise/vibration lead on some of our most exciting rail projects. The successful candidate would be responsible for the delivery of all noise and vibration for large rail infrastructure projects ($500M - $1B construction value). This role will include serving as the primary noise and vibration contact for our rail clients and has overall responsibility for the success of all noise and vibration while working on large scale & highly visible rail projects. Key clients include rail transportation agencies throughout Ontario, across Canada, and into the US.

Further, as part of the technical lead role you are responsible to marketing our services within Stantec to ensure further growth of this area throughout Canada and the US. Further, direct marketing to rail clients through presentations and technical conferences is expected.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Expertise in rail noise and vibration, including predictive analysis/modelling (e.g Motiv, FTA, CADNA, STEAM, etc.)

  • Detailed understanding of rail operations, including trains, maintenance facilities, etc.

  • Understanding of the environmental and construction process related to rail projects

  • Experience with supporting client for public consultations related to rail noise/vibration

  • Demonstrated experience in working in a team environment and communicating with external clients

  • Working knowledge of software (e.g., Microsoft Office, CAD, etc.)

  • Creative, organized and able to multi-task while working independently

  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)

  • Diligent and detail oriented with the desire to learn

  • Flexibility in scheduling required for travel related to site surveys

  • A valid driver’s license is required

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years, with 20 years preferred, of qualified experience in rail noise and vibration engineering in the consulting environment.

  • Experience must be in rail noise/vibration, such that you are a qualified expert in this area

  • Graduate of an accredited university or college with a major in Engineering is desired.

  • Registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineer of Ontario is an asset.
