Your Opportunity

Stantec seeks motivated individuals to champion the continuous growth of our services in the climate change/resiliency markets. As a senior practitioner, you will be an integral part of our team and will actively participate as an advisor and mentor in the technical and social issues associated with greenhouse gas mitigation and with the impacts of climate change on the built environment, and the integration of climate change risks in life-cycle and asset management plans, and resiliency.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key member of the practice team to drive profitable growth of Stantec’s climate change risk and sustainability services business across Canada, United States, and globally.

  • Initiate, participate in and manage projects to identify the nature of risks and severity of impacts to the built environment in a life cycle process that is included in asset management plans.

  • Perform assessments of the vulnerabilities of various assets including infrastructure, facilities, and buildings to climate change and detailed risk assessments through more detailed engineering analysis.

  • Make recommendations on risk mitigation and future climate adaptation measures, including adjustments for designs or operations.

  • Work closely with climate scientists to interpret climate data and apply it to risks assessments of infrastructure, buildings, or facilities.

  • Develop greenhouse gas inventories (GHG) and strategies in support of sustainability and climate action planning for clients.

  • Support the general growth and development of Stantec’s climate risk and sustainability services, through the preparation of proposals and participate in the team’s business development activities.

  • Develop a working understanding of Stantec’s other consulting practice areas and actively support cross-selling other services to existing clients.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree of Applied Science or Engineering in environmental or related discipline is required. Master’s degree of Applied Science or Engineering in environmental or related discipline is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of climate change challenges throughout the world and tools used to perform climate analysis and assess climate risks, such as the PIEVC Protocol, ICLEI BARC, Canada’s Climate Lens Guidance, or other risk assessment frameworks.

  • Knowledge of protocols and regulatory guidance used in the development of GHG inventories in industrial and community settings (e.g. WRI GHG Protocol).

  • Excellent communication (written/verbal), strategic thinking, negotiation, presentation, and “people” skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs. Additional proficiency in RStudio, Python and GIS applications is an asset.

  • Must be collaborative and driven by the success of Stantec.

  • Applicants in all locations in Canada are welcome.

  • Willingness for occasional travel, within Canada or internationally.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree of Applied Science or Engineering in environmental or related discipline.

  • 7-10 years of consulting or other related experience is an asset, which must include a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in climate related fields, with technical competencies in sustainability/GHG planning, and design and/or operations of infrastructure in the public and/or private sectors.

  • 2-3 years experience in managing all aspects of a project (proposal preparation, human resources, financial resources, project timelines, deliverables, communications with client and stakeholders).

  • Experience in facilitating client workshops and stakeholders’ engagement is considered an asset.
