An opportunity exists to define and shape the Discipline Leadership (DL) for our Transportation business across Canada. In this role, you will oversee the Canadian Transportation Business Center Discipline Leads (BCDLs) and be responsible for developing and standardizing design and quality processes, tools, innovations and operating procedures to successfully execute projects resulting in quality, on-time delivery and client satisfaction.
Across Canada, provide project delivery oversight for the portfolio of transportation projects. Develop and lead the deployment of Project Management (PM) Frameworks to successfully execute and deliver project work (i.e. client’s cost, scope, schedule, and service expectations and the firm’s health, safety, security, & environment (HSSE), profitability and strategic goals throughout the region.
Provide leadership in the application of delivery technologies, innovation, quality management, risk management and commercial management.
You will also have project responsibilities, and your ability to successfully demonstrate leadership through the delivery of your own projects is critical.
Your Key Responsibilities
Lead Stantec’s HSSE and Quality culture and successful implementation.
Formalize and lead our Business Center Discipline Leaders (BCDLs) and develop a consistent approach to discipline leadership across Canada.
Be responsible for the quality and innovation of the transportation engineering work undertaken across Canada.
Develop and implement project delivery and quality procedures that will lead to increased project performance and reduced risk exposure for poor quality deliverables.
Set project delivery and quality direction for processes and tools in collaboration with the Global Transportation Discipline Lead and the other Regional Discipline Leads.
Together with the Global Transportation Discipline Lead and the other Regional Discipline Leads, implement and develop methodologies for the creation and review of workplans, independent reviews, design reviews and technical reviews on transportation engineering projects.
Assist with the examination of the firm’s project delivery model(s) in use and continuously evaluate and assist with modification, improvement, or additions to these models.
Ensure Transportation Canada fully adheres to the PM Framework and meets internal audit quota, thereby maintaining ISO compliance.
Lead consistent and regular oversight of projects to ensure PM Frameworks is followed with specific emphasis on appropriate planning, implementation, change management, project controls and closeout. Ensure regular project audits and reviews of final deliverables are conducted in all BCs.
Take timely corrective action on projects that encounter technical challenges in order to avoid claims and maintain a positive relationship with our clients.
Provide feedback and support to global and regional transportation pursuits, with an emphasis on identifying and mitigating expected project risks.
Foster a community of project delivery staff who recognize and value quality project delivery.
Enhance and stand for quality, integrated design, collaborative practice and design excellence. Participate as appropriate in the company wide monthly BCDL call.

Extensive experience in providing senior level review on a broad range of transportation projects and taking responsibility to address and mitigate technical challenges appropriately and efficiently.
Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and team-building skills.
Strong reputation and relations within the Canadian transportation engineering industry.
Understanding and experience in working with business development teams to identify and mitigate project delivery risks.
Extensive experience managing a diverse range of transportation projects of all sizes; thorough understanding of and skill in using project delivery processes and tools.
Willing to travel as required.
Education and Experience
A minimum of 15 year’s applicable technical and project management experience. Typical experience ranges from 15-30 years.
It is anticipated that this role will require 35% to 40% of the candidate’s time in the first year in order to establish a strong Transportation DL organization across Canada. Time commitment requirements will be re-evaluated after the first year.
Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
