An exciting opportunity exists for the successful candidate to become one of the senior leaders in Stantec’s Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Waterloo Buildings Practice, as the Business Center Managing Leader (BCML). We provide Architecture, Interior Design, and Buildings Engineering services to a variety of top-tier clients and we have cultivated a long history and deep commitment to design excellence and sustainability across many sectors.
The BCML is the recognized operational leader of the Business Center (BC), accountable for the attainment of the BC’s operational, financial, and health and safety (H&S) objectives. Working with the BC Sector and Discipline Leaders in a collaborative leadership structure, the BCML is responsible for the development of annual operating budgets and the preparation and implementation of the BC’s business plan, with a primary focus on achieving the BC’s financial and operating objectives and maintaining an engaged and passionate team of industry-leading staff and highly satisfied clients. The BCML is also expected to consult and/or participate in significant proposals and projects undertaken within the BC.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in driving critical business processes, ensuring operational excellence, and supporting Stantec’s growth in the Ontario market and the Buildings practice at large. Candidates should have the proven ability to articulate their vision to ensure business success and create an elevated level of engagement with all staff. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of market trends within the buildings industry. The BCML must be an accomplished leader with exceptional business acumen, be a professional architect or buildings engineer with at least 15 years of experience and have significant experience in a senior operational capacity.
The BCML reports directly to the Vice President/Regional Leader for the GTA and works closely with the Buildings Regional Business Leader for Ontario and Atlantic Canada.
Your Key Responsibilities
Support our strong design and people-oriented culture
Achieve and surpass operational and financial objectives
Develop the annual operating budget
Foster collaboration across business lines and regions
Work closely with our Project Managers to oversee asset management activities related to invoicing of Work in Progress (WIP) and ensuring timely payment of Accounts Receivable
Recruit, attract, grow, retain and inspire talented employees
Implement Stantec policies and strategies
Develop a strong culture of H&S and achieve all related leading and lagging H&S performance indicators
In partnership with the BC Sector Leaders, achieve marketing and business development objectives and associated costs
Proposal preparation/consultation and professional fee negotiation and scheduling
In collaboration with the architecture and engineering BC Discipline Leaders, achieve the technical quality and project management objectives of the business
Monitor and schedule project workload and allocation of resources for projects
Coach, mentor, and develop our people
Identify and develop future leaders
Work together with other leaders to represent Buildings and the company within the Ontario market and beyond
Achieve and maintain compliance with corporate policies and industry standards
Participate in various regional initiatives as required
Your Capabilities & Credentials
A results oriented professional with a tenacious desire to achieve operational excellence and lead a successful business
A thorough understanding of the Architectural and Buildings Engineering design industry and local market
Significant knowledge in the marketing, design, project management and contract administration of successful buildings projects
Strong leadership, financial management, communication and team building skills
Prior consulting and operational experience within the Architectural and Buildings Engineering industry
Established client and agency contacts are desirable
The candidate shall possess a strong work ethic and high degree of integrity and will excel in a multi-disciplinary design environment
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Buildings Engineering required. Professional registration in buildings related field (OAA or P.Eng.). Minimum of 15 years of experience in the planning and execution of building projects.
Travel will be required 20% of the time to various Stantec offices in Southern Ontario, including Waterloo and Markham.
