Stantec is seeking an individual to support and coordinate the implementation of Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) program within the region of Ontario and will preferably be based out of our Waterloo office. Under the direction of the Regional HSSE Manager, the Regional HSSE Advisor will support and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the HSSE program within the region.
This is a full-time position, consisting of 37.5 hours per work week.
Will preferably be based out of our Waterloo, Mississauga or Markham office.
Your Key Responsibilities
Promote HSSE within the region with a goal of continuous improvement of HSSE culture.
Support field project operation’s and offices in maintaining compliance to Stantec’s HSSE systems including the HSSE program manual and safe work practices, as well as local legislation.
Assist with pre-project planning and execution (e.g., project specific HSSE plans, hazard assessments, etc.).
Conduct field assessments, planned job observations and worksite inspections with leadership (which may require overnight travel).
Promote participation and involvement of leadership, staff, and business centers in the leading indicator program.
Provide statistics and analysis of leading and lagging HSSE information as required or requested, to leadership.
Facilitate incident investigations in collaboration with project managers and leadership.
Coordinate and provide HSSE guidance and direction to Office Safety and Environment Coordinators (OSECs) and staff.
Coordinate and facilitate monthly OSEC calls.
Support the application of the internal ergonomic program for offices.
Support the subcontractor management program by conducting contractor prequalification assessments as required.
Assist with regional International Standards Organization (ISO) framework audits.
Organize and facilitate communications and events to promote health and safety (including but not limited to, focused internal HSSE awareness sessions, Lunch and Learns, North American Occupational Safety and Health activities (NAOSH) week etc.).
Your Capabilities and Credentials
CRSP designation (candidates in the process of obtaining a CRSP designation will be considered).
Knowledge of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities, coupled with an ability to work in a team atmosphere.
Strong leadership skills and the capability to assess priorities and work independently.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Computer proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software.
Valid drivers’ license and satisfactory driving record.
Education and Experience
A degree, diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.
Five (5) years of relevant field work experience in an HSSE role.
Experience in the consulting and construction sectors considered an asset.
Some travel is required, primarily local travel to nearby work sites. May require occasional overtime hours.
