Your Opportunity

The role of the Project Geologist or Engineer is to perform tasks and project management assignments associated with geotechnical investigations and environmental assessments; sampling of soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater; production of maps; data interpretation/evaluation and deliverable preparation.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Performing outdoor, all-season, on-site geotechnical, and geological investigation work as well as geotechnical related construction monitoring field tasks such as fill construction, foundation installation observation and testing.

  • Conducting subsurface geotechnical and geologic investigations in connection with building, infrastructure, and other development projects.

  • Performing field geologic explorations including soils and bedrock mapping.

  • Performing field permeability testing and evaluations for infiltration facilities.

  • Writing drafts of field reports and geotechnical and geologic reports.

  • Providing geotechnical monitoring and using instrumentation to record vibrations, settlements, slope movements, water levels, and other critical geotechnical engineering data.

  • Documenting and preparing internal reports on the geotechnical and geologic aspects of construction projects.

  • Performing geotechnical computer modeling of liquefaction, slope stability, groundwater dewatering predictions, groundwater flow.

  • Complete applicable company and client required health & safety training (including OSHA required training) and follow health & safety policies and procedures.

  • Follows established standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines to complete entry level and routine assignments.

  • This position works as part of a larger geotechnical and environmental team and will likely require support to multiple Stantec offices.

  • A willingness to travel is preferred.

  • Basic understanding of technical writing skills

  • Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required), and demonstrates use and understanding of these policies and procedures as appropriate to their work.

  • Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships within their technical team, Business Center, and region.

  • Demonstrates ability to build relationships with key clients with respect to their technical area and the broader business objectives of the Business Center.

  • The successful candidate will have a diverse skill set in multiple environmental disciplines and a passion for lifelong learning.

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geoscience, or related field. EIT or GIT preferred.

  • Minimum 2-3 years’ work experience; or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience. Co-op/Internship experience preferred.

Time will be split in field and office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Salary Range(s):

  • CA Other Areas $33.46 Per Hour - CA Other Areas $53.65 Per Hour Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
