We are seeking a Senior Engineering Geologist to join our water consulting group where you will play a significant role in developing our engineering geology capabilities in Queensland. In a close-knit and growing local office in Brisbane, you will be part of the much larger, national ground engineering team. Reporting to the water team leader, this role will require a balance of independence and collaboration in approach. Working with experienced team members and clients, your role would have you involved in exciting and diverse projects in a range of civil and water infrastructure.

About the role:

The role will initially service water dams and hydropower infrastructure projects in Queensland and is designed for a 10 to 15 years years of experience engineering geologist that can plan and conduct professional work without detailed supervision. The successful candidate would be responsible for the delivery and results of medium to large sized projects, representing Stantec in front of clients, consultants and contractors, as well as developing relationships and exploring opportunities. The role also requires the establishment of professional standards and procedures, sharing knowledge with others, acting as a mentor and assisting in the development of more junior members of staff.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Plan and deliver geotechnical and geological field investigations in accordance with AS1726:2017.

  • Excellent field work and interpersonal skills, practically minded, strong communicator, independent, innovative and with a strong team focus.

  • Produce geotechnical and geological reports, specifications and drawings.

  • Detailed theoretical knowledge of geotechnical engineering and engineering geology, as well as project management principles.

  • Demonstrated interpretative and analytical skills, with strong knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, principles of geotechnical engineering, geology, engineering geology and hydrogeology.

  • Assess ground conditions and prepare geotechnical and geological ground models, including soil and rock mass properties, as well as hydrogeology.

  • Present appropriate information in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing.

  • Supervising and developing junior engineers.

  • Commitment to further study and gaining professional chartership status.

  • Provide technical input to projects by liaising with Technical Leaders and Project Managers in Stantec, whilst ensuring engineering geological elements on projects are managed by appropriate engineering geological specialists in Stantec.

  • Assist with the preparation of cost estimates for project design and construction.

  • Confident ability in a client facing role promoting technical capabilities and service offerings to clients - consult, recommend and advise in specialty areas.

  • Ability and experience in delivering high quality standards to clients.

  • Expectation to travel and complete site work in accordance with project requirements, along with a full valid Australian driving license (up to 40% of field based presence in a calendar year).

  • Complete all work in line with Stantec Core Values and in accordance with the Stantec Quality Systems and Project Quality Procedures.

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Degree qualified in Geology or similar. Masters in Geotechnical Engineering / Engineering Geology would be desirable with a commitment to further study and gaining chartership in relevant fields.

  • 10 to 15 years of professional experience

  • Flexibility to travel as this role will require travel from time to time (domestic and international), so flexibility and passion for site-based work is required, as well as a full driving licence.
