Your Opportunity

We are looking for a talented, and ambitious Intermediate GIS Specialist to join our Canadian British Columbia/Yukon (BC/YK) Environmental Services Team. You would be joining a team of GIS Specialists that work collaboratively to deliver solutions to our internal and external clients using an ESRI Enterprise environment. As an Intermediate GIS Specialist, you would be reporting directly to the BC/YK GIS Team Lead and would be providing GIS support services to multi-disciplinary teams. In the BC/YK region, Stantec’s Environmental Services Team works with clients primarily in Federal and Provincial Governments, Transportation, Infrastructure Development, Oil and Gas, and Power and Renewables related sectors. We provide GIS and mapping services for a diversity of projects such as environmental assessments, environmental permitting, Phase I & II site assessments, spills and remediation projects, water resource and infrastructure planning, wildlife and habitat monitoring, heritage studies, and air and noise monitoring.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, interpret, and analyze spatial and non-spatial information primarily involving ESRI ArcGIS Software

  • Map production and data analysis to support project deliverables.

  • Perform spatial data analysis using scripts and geoprocessing tools

  • Prepare web maps, online dash boards, and manage data for field survey crews, using applications and platforms which include Survey 123, Field Maps and ArcGIS Online

  • Provide quality GIS support services while adhering to project budgets and timelines while adhering to established Quality Assurance/ Quality Control Processes

  • Creating and editing shapefiles, file geodatabases, raster surfaces and other spatial and non-spatial data.

  • Create pivot tables and develop criteria-based metrics.

  • Working on Windows Platform and use MS Office suite of applications (Teams, Outlook, Word, Access, Excel, SharePoint)

  • Assist in the development of costs and budgets associated with pursuits and opportunities.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Required:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Technical training and experience in GIS mapping, geospatial analysis, and geographic principles (e.g., map projections and coordinate systems)
    • Experience working with the ESRI suite of applications (ArcMap, ArcPro, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps and Survey 123, Dashboards, StoryMaps, AppBuilder)
    • Familiarity with municipal, provincial, and federal data sets and GIS systems
    • Intermediate level of knowledge of ArcGIS tools including: map series, Spatial Analyst, Topology
    • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
    • Proven data management, metadata and data organization skills
    • Strong cartographic skills including the ability to adhere to standards and communicate highly complex information in an accessible and attractive manner.
    • Demonstrated experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced deadline and deliverable oriented setting.
    • Working knowledge of various environmental disciplines (i.e. Hydrogeology, Ecology, Environmental Assessments and Archaeology)
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Preferred:

    • Prior experience in the delivery of GIS products and analytical solutions in the environmental industry
    • Programming experience with Python, SQL or Arcade
    • Experience with LiDAR data
    • Experience with image analysis software or tools (eCognition, Image Analyst ArcPro)
    • Working knowledge of Autodesk/CAD
    • New Century Software to create Environmental and Construction Alignment Sheets
    • Experience with FME

Education and Experience

  • University or college graduate in GIS or related discipline.

  • Minimum 3 years of GIS experience in a GIS environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Travel is not anticipated.

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $67,500/BC Other Areas $63,700 - Lower Mainland $97,900/BC Other Areas $92,400 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
