Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Lighting Design team creates captivating designs for iconic buildings worldwide. We’re seeking a passionate Pacific Northwest Regional Lighting Design Lead to join our Seattle office. If you’re a self-starter who thrives on collaboration and creative problem-solving, read on!

You would be responsible for regional business development, project management, and leading all lighting design aspects of projects. This includes the development of design solutions, coordination with the design team and owner, overseeing the lighting design, luminaire selection, lighting controls, energy code compliance, documentation, details, construction administration, budgeting, and fee management.

The main purpose of this position is to support the growth of Stantec’s Lighting Design practice. You will be an the advocate of the Practice both internally within Stantec and externally to clients and professional organizations within the region.

You will be familiar with the regional market and the project pipeline that feeds your team. You will typically lead or support positioning and proposal efforts. In addition to your regional focus, you will collaborate with our broader team of 15 dedicated lighting specialists that support our multidisciplinary practice. You will continually seek work to support and grow our team.

The successful candidate will be based out of our Seattle, Washington office with strong familiarity with the regional market in the Pacific Northwest.

Primary Role, Goals, and Objectives: * Support the Lighting Design teams in developing: * Strategic winning and successfully delivering regional work. * Responses to pursuits.

  • Strategic visions and for delivering design excellence to clients.

  • Stay abreast of latest industry trends and standards for lighting and controls.

  • Provide leadership, advisement, advocacy, and guidance for the local lighting team and projects.

Your Responsibilities

  • Project Involvement – approximately 50% of time.

  • Oversee projects and staff providing mentoring and oversight of quality control..

  • Collaborate with and support all partners in design and building including Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Sustainability, Contractors, Owners and Developers to build strong and lasting relationships.

  • Attend and lead project design meetings.

  • Develop efficient and accurate solutions to design/integration problems.

  • Support project requirements including opinions-of-probable-costs estimates, drawing documentation, and control system design.

  • Collaborate internally across the practice to enhance our commitment to an integrated practice model and the value of design excellence.

  • Drive a culture of innovation and incorporate industry trends including operational efficiencies, user satisfaction, sustainability, and high-performance lighting design.

  • Apply technical skills and design documentation processes to produce accurate and timely deliverables.

  • Collaborate and clearly communication with project managers, consultants, and business line leaders as part of a integrated design team.

  • Effectively delegate work and project engagement across your team to support their growth and effective workflows to support project efficiency and delivery of design excellence.

Business Development and Marketing – approximately 30% of time.

  • Seek and capitalize internal and external opportunities for Lighting Design consulting services expansion.

  • Enhance internal and external awareness of Stantec’s Lighting Design service offerings, particularly within the Pacific Northwest region.

  • Represent the firm through published articles, public speaking engagements and attendance at industry and community events, meetings, and conferences.

  • Lead and oversee project proposals, develop lighting design scopes of services and fees, review and negotiate contracts.

  • Work with the marketing department to develop tailored Lighting Design marketing materials and content to support business development and project pursuits that accurately reflect our lighting design service offering.

  • Showcase Lighting Design service expertise through internal and external thought leadership and Awards submissions to enhance Stantec’s position as an industry leader.

Mentorship and Team Management – approximately 20% of time.

  • Help set the vision and growth strategy for our Lighting Design consulting services in the Pacific Northwest and provide oversight and coordination with and specialty services teams globally.

  • Strategically support the career and personal development growth of your team and seek to grow your team.

  • Provide mentorship and regular engagement with your staff to support their project work and personal development.

  • Proactively pursues additional knowledge in related disciplines by attending available in house and external training to support your personal growth and that of the team you lead.

  • Drive a culture of innovation and incorporate industry trends including sustainability, high performance building lighting design, and energy strategies into your design practice and that of your team.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Deep knowledge of all lighting sectors, industry trends and objectives. Includes but not limited to Civic, Commercial, Cultural, Education, Federal, Health, Hospitality, Mixed Use Development, Multifamily, Retail, Science and Technology, Transportation, Landscape, Building Façade, and Lighting Control Systems.

  • Knowledge of related services including but not limited to MEP, Sustainability, Building Integrated Technology, Acoustics, and Commissioning.

  • Deep knowledge of local market as well as experience in national and global markets.

  • Experience with network, wireless, access control, CCTV, CATV, nurse call, clinical technology, IoT, and audiovisual design considerations and their integration capabilities

  • Ability to apply logic, reasoning, and organizational skills to structure concepts and ideas into deliverables.

  • Ability to demonstrate a credible and trustworthy presence through professionalism and collaborative demeanor.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare and present accurate, professionally written reports, recommendations and presentations.

  • Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM), AutoCAD and Revit.

  • Understanding and applied knowledge of photometric tools such as AGI32, LightStanza, Ellumtools, and IES files.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and BlueBeam.

  • Strong values and ethics.

Preferred Auxiliary Qualifications:

  • Professional IALD and/or IES membership.

  • LEED or WELL accredited professional.

  • Certified Lighting Designer (CLD) or Lighting Certified (LC).

Experience and Education

  • Bachelors' degree in related design field or equivalent combination of education and experience. The related experience shall be predominately in architectural lighting design.

  • Minimum of 15 years of related work experience including business development, leadership, financial management, and consulting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Office Location and Travel

  • This position allows for remote work flexibility, however regular in office attendance is required at a minimum of three days/week. as needed to support the position requirements.

  • Approximately 5% travel to support project and team needs.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • 129,800.00 - $155,800 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in WA

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.

  • Washington state employees are eligible to accrue 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked except for Seattle employees who accrue sick leave in accordance with the city’s paid sick leave law.
