Stantec Office Safety and Environment Coordinator in Scarborough, Maine

Your Opportunity

The primary mandate of an Office Safety and Environment Coordinator (OSEC) is to act as a resource to local office operations in the administration of day-to-day safety activities. In addition to their regular duties, OSECs promote the Stantec Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Program and OHSMS, and may assist in the development and revision of tools and documentation.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a filing system containing the forms, reports, and training records required by the HSE Program.

  • Act as a local resource for HSE Program, employee comments, concerns and suggestions. Bring relevant items forward at OSEC meetings and/or Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings.

  • Help project managers, supervisors, and others obtain appropriate safety and environment equipment for employees working on their projects.

  • Conduct HSE Program orientation for new employees.

  • Post and distribute HSE Program documents such as policies, rules, practices, procedures, and forms.

  • Help supervisors and project managers prepare and file incident reports and conduct investigations. If required, assist with the completion of corrective actions.

  • Submit HSE reports for each period.

  • Participate in regional OSEC conference calls.

  • Working in conjunction with corporate HSE and Human Resources, assist in the coordination of case management and modified work planning for injured employees.

  • Assist in worksite inspections as required.

  • Coordinate HSE training as identified by HSE Program requirements and hazard assessment.

  • Participate in HSE professional development opportunities as needed.

  • Schedule medical surveillance activities for required employees.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • A Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Candidates in the process of obtaining a CSP or CIH designation will be considered.

  • Knowledge of US Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities, coupled with an ability to work in a team atmosphere.

  • Strong leadership skills and the capability to assess priorities and work independently.

  • Computer proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software.

  • Willingness to travel frequently for periods up to a week at a time.

Education and Experience

A degree or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.

Minimum five (1-5) years of relevant work experience in an HSSE profession.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long period of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
