Your Opportunity

As an Emergency Management Planner with Stantec, you will have the opportunity to be a part of Stantec’s growing emergency management and community resilience practice in the West based out of our Sacramento or other northern California office location. Your expertise and experience supporting development of resilient and forward-looking programs will compliment Stantec’s multi-disciplinary technical expertise and national emergency management team to successfully win and execute projects across the western United States to build communities that thrive in the wake of shocks or stresses.

In this role, your strong understanding of comprehensive community resilience and emergency management planning and stakeholder engagement will help guide Stantec’s team to provide exceptional deliverables through project life cycles, achieve client satisfaction, and maintain profitability for the projects we execute. In addition, you will collaborate with our western United States resilience leader and engage our expert resources to form teams who can deliver thoughtful, compelling proposal submittals to successfully secure new and repeat business clients.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and maintain public and private client relationships and play a key role in client management and delivery.

  • Manage the delivery of emergency management planning efforts including, but not limited to, emergency operations, disaster resilience and recovery, urban and regional planning, and hazard mitigation.

  • Conduct and/or guide delivery of capacity building activities including training and exercises, strategy development, inclusive facilitation, and community engagement.

  • Research and advise on community resilience planning best practice standards and guidance.

  • Prepare comprehensive plans, presentations, and functional tools to meet project needs.

  • Develop a working understanding and relationships with Stantec resources across Business Lines (e.g., Water, Environmental Services, Community Development, Energy, etc.) to support growth of our emergency management and community resilience practice, and actively support cross-selling other services to existing clients.

  • Prepare proposals to pursue opportunities with new and existing clients.

  • Interact with and develop excellent relations with clients and stakeholders to determine project requirements and guide to approval.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proven track record of contributing to the technical development of emergency management planning deliverables.

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state emergency management and resilience-related laws and regulations, as well as best practice standards and guidance.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational and collaboration skills.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate complex issue to clients and stakeholders.

  • Highly effective in participating in teams and leading simultaneous tasks with limited supervisory support.

  • Understanding and sensitivity to local cultural and political issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to readily identify potential problems and develop effective solutions on a project.

  • Proven and demonstrated high quality technical writing skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in planning, science, public policy, or related field; or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of emergency management planning, processes, and strategies.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the National Incident Management System and Incident Command System.

Office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, or combination of office and field. When circumstances allow, some travel may be required (approximately 25%), such as meeting attendance at agencies or clients. May occasionally visit study areas and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.

Salary Range(s):

  • SF Area $$40.53/CA Other Areas $35.38 PH - SF Area $$58.75/CA Other Areas $51.30PH Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
