As a professional services firm we are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to complement our team, with the potential for growth and leadership opportunities. You will work closely with the US Northeast Buildings Engineering group, to continue our business growth and enhance design excellence in the execution of projects through mentorship, leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration. Stantec’s diverse project portfolio encompasses multiple sectors including but not limited to; Commercial, Hospitality, Multi-Family Highrise, K-12/Higher Education, Transportation, Federal, Industrial, Science and Technology, and Infrastructure. Your Key Responsibilities

Your role as a Senior Mechanical Engineer on our team is to proactively lead the design of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for assigned projects, through all phases of the project lifecycle.

  • Perform or oversee design activities for assigned projects, including building surveys and acquiring base-building information, performing heating and cooling load calculations, preparing design concepts and sketches, selecting mechanical equipment, designing and layout of systems, writing specifications, and coordinating with other disciplines and consultants.

  • Perform or oversee construction administration activities for assigned projects, including attending construction meetings, performing field observations for construction activities, reviewing shop drawings, answering requests for information, reviewing the completed installation, and submitting final punch lists.

  • Evaluate designs to ensure that they meet all federal, state, and local codes, and any applicable client design standards.

  • Participate in client meetings, value engineering analysis, and probable cost of construction estimates.

  • Perform in-depth evaluations and alternative analyses to support project decisions.

  • Develop project scope, design approach, level of effort internal cost estimates and budget projections for technical proposals.

  • Provide direct supervision to assigned junior staff. Develop junior staff skills and abilities by providing guidance and mentoring to strengthen technical abilities.

  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.

  • Strong understanding of Mechanical/HVAC concepts, systems, strategies, and industry standards.

  • Ability to lead mechanical engineering teams through all phases of project document production.

  • Manages time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Ability to oversee and execute work through a team of more junior engineers.

  • Demonstrates creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems.

  • Ability to problem-solve and communicate ideas to others.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to write clear, thorough technical reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple ongoing projects.

  • Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use standard computer applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use software for heating/cooling load calculations, either Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, IES, or equivalent.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant working experience in designing Mechanical/HVAC systems.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $98,200.00 - $147,300.00 Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in NYC/NY

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
