Stantec’s Aviation group is looking for a Senior Aviation Planner and Project Manager who will oversee and manage Stantec’s Airport Planning Team based in the Northeast!

As a Senior Aviation Planner, you will manage and deliver a wide range of airport design/planning/airspace projects for an extensive list of airport clients nationally, including small general aviation airports, large hub commercial service airports, and military (DOD) clients. You will manage projects from initial scoping through construction/project close out, of which will include conceptual designs and technical reports, airspace analyses, airport layout plan (ALP) and master plan updates, other aviation planning studies, and airside infrastructure and obstruction removal projects. You will work closely with business leaders to help promote and grow the airport practice throughout New England, North America, and the Caribbean.

Specific responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage client(s) needs, attended, and participated in airport commission meetings, and guided airport managers, airport commissions, funding/regulatory agencies, conferences, and client engineering/planning staff.

  • Prepare project Scope of Services and Fees, establish project goals, milestones, and procedures, define roles and responsibilities, coordinate resources, and monitor project progress.

  • Work with the design team on deliverables, including preparation of drawings, reports, specifications, and construction and planning cost estimates.

  • Prepare grant administration paperwork for the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA's) Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and State grant administration.

  • Lead the preparation of proposals and statements of qualifications.

  • Actively participate in marketing by delivering quality work, providing excellent client service, and assisting with project pursuits.

  • Take an active mentoring role; encourage, motivate, and develop others for high performance; ensure mistakes become learning experiences.

  • Educate and work with staff on interpreting airspace elements, instrument approach charts, and their relationship with airport operations, safety, and design.

  • Manage planning and technical staff with various backgrounds and expertise.

Qualifications

What Will You Need to Succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a degree program directly related to aviation or aerospace.

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience managing projects within airport infrastructure design and planning

  • Valid U.S. Driver's License and ability to travel to client sites.

  • AICP, AAAE, CM, or other relevant aviation or airport certification is a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with our team are necessary.

  • Knowledge of FAA policies and guidance, funding programs, national guidance on compliance, Circulars, Orders, Handbooks, and the National Airspace System.

  • In-depth knowledge of airport planning and knowledge of environmental programs.

  • Experience performing and leading Airspace Analyses and associated obstruction removal/mitigation projects. Strong community outreach experience is essential.

  • Experience in successful aviation project pursuits, including identifying opportunities, client engagement, developing teaming strategies, and developing proposals.

  • Fundamental knowledge of air traffic control (ATC) procedures and the air traffic control system and an understanding of flight procedures are essential, including knowledge of instrument approach and departure procedures, airspace configurations, and other ATC and pilot-related concepts, and their relationship to airport design and planning.

  • An FAA pilot certification with an instrument rating is a plus.

  • Ability to coordinate with professional staff to develop multiple assignments.

  • Strong client interaction and relationship skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, multi-tasking, and strong attentiveness to detail

  • Willingness to learn new skills and interface with multiple project managers.

  • Management and operation of public-use airports

  • Interest in traveling outside New England to support Stantec’s Aviation Sector.

  • Willingness and capability to interface with aviation professionals outside of New England to promote, secure, and deliver aviation and planning technical services.

The position will primarily work in an office setting. It may require some fieldwork, but occasional domestic and possibly international travel is necessary.

  • Hiring Salary Range: $141,100-$176,400- New York City locations only. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience and work location.
