Due to exciting growth in our Australian Environment and Geosciences Business, we are searching for an experienced, passionate, and driven scientist to lead our Mine Closure Team.

Based in our Perth office, our Environmental Mine Closure Team are leading experts in their field, comprising environmental scientists, mine closure planners and geoscientists with demonstrated experience and a pipeline of projects across the Pilbara, Goldfields and South-west of Western Australia, as well as Queensland and Victoria. We also actively engage globally with Stantec mine closure and restoration experts, and locally with State Government regulators and researchers.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Provide technical leadership and support to the team and broader business.

  • Develop and maintain client relationships.

  • Develop and co-ordinate technical studies to inform landform design, management of mine tailings, rehabilitation planning including analysis of soil or geochemical data.

  • Undertake site-visits to provide advice to our clients on geoscience and closure aspects, and rehabilitation planning.

  • Liaise with internal and external subject matter experts.

  • Prepare proposals, budgets, and tender documents tailored to client needs.

  • Prepare Mine Closure Plans, including critical review of feasibility of implementation.

  • Analyse ecological data, develop statistically robust closure criteria, and prepare clear, concise technical reports.

  • Expand your knowledge across various disciplines (terrestrial, aquatic and marine ecology, rehabilitation and remote sensing, and environmental approvals), to drive your career progression.

To be successful for this role you’ll need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Soil Science or related discipline.

  • A minimum of 8 years professional experience directly relevant to the role, within an environmental consultancy or mining company.

  • Working knowledge of state-based closure standards and guidelines, and environmental legislation and policies (understanding of international standards also of benefit).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including highly developed technical reporting skills.

  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary studies for mine closure planning and related disciplines.

  • Eligibility to work in Australia with a current C class unrestricted (manual) Drivers Licence.

  • Ability to lead and work well within a high performing and successful team.
