Your Opportunity
Stantec's growing Industrial Water practices is seeking a highly moti-vated Project Manager / Intermediate Process Engineer to join our team. The candidate will support project proposals and application processes for industrial water in mining, power, oil & gas, Hitech, phar-maceutical, pulp & paper, manufacturing, and food & beverage throughout the US and Canada.
The Project Manager / Intermediate Process Engineer will be responsi-ble for preparing new proposals, managing new and existing projects, developing solutions to project challenges, and managing a multi-disciplinary staff for successful completion of projects. The individual will interact internally throughout the organization with staff at all levels as well as externally with clients, members of business and professional or-ganizations, subcontractors, and other firms. The candidate will partici-pate in business development activities such as networking with exter-nal clients and internal staff and participating in industrial water confer-ences to support the Industrial Water Leaders.
Candidate should be able to identify, evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project, and will perform a variety of tasks which may include inspection, troubleshooting, calculations, de-sign sketches and concepts, estimating, calculating savings, report preparation and field work. Candidate should be comfortable present-ing single source solutions.
Project management skills include communication, financial and schedule tracking as well as development of related interim plans to address challenges. Projects assigned may be broad, varied, and di-verse in scope. You will analyze proposed projects to ensure safety, re-liability, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Business develop-ment/application activities ranges from intentional listening to client needs and identifying related solution opportunities to high level busi-ness strategies and implementation planning. All Stantec industrial wa-ter project managers perform as seller-doers, routinely developing de-tailed proposals for a wide variety of project settings.
Your Key Responsibilities
Performs business development/application tasks and collaborates with staff to increase project wins and develop long lasting client relationships. Routine tasks include:
- Participate in business line teams to manage and develop proposals
- Client facing for business development contact, meetings, walk-downs, and presentations
- Scope of work documents and estimates
- Division of responsibility (DOR) matrices
- Collaboration with multiple business lines to develop opportunities
- Quality reviews
Assists senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the pro-ject scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.
Performs complex engineering design tasks on assigned industrial water and wastewater-related projects through collaboration with a wide range of technical disciplines. Routine technical tasks include:
- Design basis documents
- Engineering calculations including water, heat, and material ba-lances
- Equipment sizing and selection
- Engineering drawings such as block flow diagrams (BFDs), process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (PIDs)
- Engineering reports
- Feasibility studies
- Presentations to clients, regulatory agencies and/or project stake-holders
- Quality reviews
Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
Lead in management of others in developing and coordination of the pro-ject construction specifications.
Conducts and/or coordinates quality assurance and quality control on as-signed projects and facilitates independent technical review projects by others.
Reviews contractor/vendor submittals for adherence to Contract Docu-ments and industry standards.
Assists with the management of the design and construction of projects.
Involved in the permitting process of projects, which may require meeting with clients, contractors, interested stakeholder parties, reviewing agency personnel.
Coordinates with the regulatory review to seek final approval.
Assists in the development and updates of project design standards and guidelines; prepares abstracts and technical papers/presentations.
Manage a team of design professionals and technicians
Management of projects of varying complexity within multidisciplinary teams
Mentor and supervise staff and develop high-performing project teams
Assist with business development pursuits including identifying customers, proposal preparation and participation in interviews
Interact with clients and management regarding status of project scope, schedule, and budget
Apply and share experience/knowledge of design expertise
Lead and manage preparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, return on investment, and construction cost estimates
Research and understand issues related to regulatory and other drivers that impact individual projects
Ensure that projects' needs are met in a timely and effective manner
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Coordinate with marketing to maintain social media presence including LinkedIn posts, webinars, and blog posts
Qualifications

Ability to perform mass & energy balance and process equipment sizing calculations and coordinate with other engineering disciplines including stress/structural, instrumentation & controls, and electrical.
Ability to quickly assess industrial water process for core plant functions
Ability to translate industrial water process into clear diagrams such as BFDs, PFDs, and PIDs.
General understanding of all phases of project document production, cli-ent procurement procedures, and regulatory approval processes.
Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to en-gage in creative and critical thought.
Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients, contractors, equip-ment suppliers/vendors, funding agencies and reviewing agencies; to de-liver technical presentations in public forums in conferences and technical symposia.
Possesses excellent time-management skills, thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and available resources.
Understanding of local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite and Adobe.
Experience with other software, such as Fathom, ASPEN, BioWin, Mem-brane Modeling Software desirable but not required.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Chemical, Mechanical, or Civ-il/Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution.
Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of industrial water process experience.PE license.
PMP certification desirable, but not required
Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
