Your Opportunity

The Staff Archaeologist role will include cultural resources fieldwork including coordinating and leading crews, background reviews, and report preparation for various clients such as ODOT, USACE, BIA, BLM, USDA, large utility clients, oil and gas, etc. Archaeology work could include the following: archaeological survey, testing, evaluation, construction monitoring, report and section writing, site record forms, as well as other tasks as assigned. Must demonstrate awareness of workplace safety and be willing to work independently when conditions are appropriate or with limited supervision. You will work closely with Stantec's project managers, senior archaeologists, and environmental staff. We have positions based in our Norman, OK and Tulsa, OK offices.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating fieldwork and compliance documents/permitting for various clients

  • Participate in identifying and recording archaeological sites

  • Work closely with Projects Managers, Senior Archaeologists, and peers to make technical recommendations for cultural resources management

  • Collect field data

  • Conduct and assist with preliminary field reconnaissance surveys and archaeological reports

  • Assist in archaeological monitoring and excavations

  • Manage field equipment

  • Manage tasks and projects according to approved scopes of work and deliver quality reports on schedule and within budget

  • Completing QA/QC on deliverables

  • Participate in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards, and Guidelines in the execution of all work

  • Provide supervision, training, technical direction, and mentoring to more junior staff

  • Applies technical and business knowledge and methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues

  • Local and regional travel required

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong skills in technical writing

  • Disciplined approach to project execution and technical excellence

  • Ability to provide written and verbal direction for project delivery

  • Demonstrated leadership in ongoing technical performance improvement

  • Ability to convey safety information to field staff

  • Experience in Cultural Resource Management is not required but would be considered an asset

  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record required

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and minimum 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience preferred.

This position is a combination of location/regional travel and a desktop position with typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods.
