Your Opportunity

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer and senior contributor on our professional consulting services team, your role is to work within a larger multi-discipline project team through all phases of a project lifecycle. You are responsible for developing and implementing mechanical engineering solutions while leading a team of Designers and less experienced Engineers. Although your primary work will be for open pit and underground mines, there is also some support you will provide to other groups within Stantec, like oil and gas.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Sealing engineer for work completed by you or by engineers-in-training that were under your direct control.

  • Provide direct oversight to assigned staff; develop staff skills and abilities by providing guidance and mentoring to strengthen technical abilities and promote evaluation of risks and implementation of mitigations.

  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.

  • Recognize opportunities to develop innovative solutions and contribute knowledge and ideas for successful implementation.

  • Act as technical advisor on more unusual and complex issues and guide staff on solutions.

  • Lead the preparation and coordination of project specifications and related documents.

  • Participate in the review of other Mechanical Engineer’s work as well as reviewing interfaces with other engineering discipline’s work.

  • Assist in the development of proposals.

Qualifications

Your Qualifications

  • Registration as an Engineer with one of the Canadian province’s Engineering Associations.

  • Strong understanding of mining project life cycle from study to execution.

  • Strong knowledge and experience in some of the following systems:

    • Hoisting
    • Ore flow and material handling
    • Ventilation
    • Piping Systems
      • Dewatering
      • Process Water
      • Backfill
      • Compressed Air
  • Infrastructure – garage, dry, refuge station, magazine, etc.

  • Ability to work in a digital environment and strong experience with the following:

    • 3D model reviews
    • 2D drawing and document reviews using tools such as Adobe Acrobat and Bluebeam
    • Use of Microsoft Office Suite tools
    • Ability to effectively communicate and lead through Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with different teams.

  • Strong presentation skills for discussions with client and sub-consultants.

  • Demonstrated mentoring skills for both junior engineers and designers.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

  • Minimum of 15 years work experience with 8 years in the mining field.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
