Stantec Senior Coastal Modeller in Nationwide, United Kingdom

Stantec is working in partnership with many clients and partners across the regulated water industry in the UK to develop innovative, sustainable, and efficient solutions to their needs by applying genuinely new ways of working. Coastal water quality challenges continue and as standards tighten, we need to account for a broad range of potential pollution sources from the catchment. This requires an integrated team that can work across the water cycle to meet the industry-wide efficiency and environmental challenges.

Key to our growth is continuous development of our expertise in understanding how environmental conditions such as tides and winds impact coastal hydrodynamics and water quality and currently we are looking for a Senior Coastal Modeller to add to this expertise. Through integration with other expertise in urban and natural catchments we are able to work with a range of stakeholders to help clients and communities to develop the solutions that deliver environmental performance sustainably and efficiently. You will be working within a core of scientific and engineering experts supporting a range of clients from the water, energy and infrastructure sectors. Together we will identify pollution sources, pathways and receptors and develop solutions for natural and urban catchments. You will use your knowledge and experience to deliver innovative, sustainable, and efficient solutions and quantify these for environmental and operational performance.

The role requirements are:

  • A high degree of numeracy with oceanographic and meteorological capability

  • To be able to specify, build, calibrate, verify, and apply coastal hydrodynamic and water quality models. Experience with one or more of the following systems is preferable: MIKE21, MIKE3, DELFT 2D/3D, TELEMAC

  • Knowledge of, and experience of, working with UK environmental regulation relating to water quality in rivers and seas

  • Programming skills will be advantageous

  • An appetite to expand your knowledge and experience through working with other experts from a range of disciplines such as urban networks, river science, groundwater, catchment science, wastewater and clean water treatment, data analytics, ecology and environmental services

  • Mentor colleagues to continue their journey to become world leaders in their field

  • Build lasting relationships with our clients and technical experts

  • Maintain Stantec’s high quality standards through our Quality Assurance process

This role can be based anywhere in the UK with the option of working out of any of our offices across the country, or flexible / homeworking arrangements available.

About you

To be considered for this opportunity you must be degree qualified (or equivalent) in science, mathematics or engineering with experience within the water industry. Professional qualifications will be advantageous.

This is a chance to join a dynamic team in supporting the delivery of a variety of projects. You will provide technical leadership on projects in terms of developing and managing people and tasks, managing budgets, scope and risk. You will also work closely with our clients.
