Your Opportunity

You will perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to biology. You will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field work using standard methods to sample water quality, sediments, fish communities, and aquatic vegetation in streams and lakes.

  • Record data and observations in an accurate and well-organized manner.

  • Complete tasks such as data management, analysis and interpretation; report preparation, preparation of permit applications and other general tasks with supervision from senior staff.

  • Prepare technical reports detailing environmental assessments and monitoring activities.

  • Manages small tasks and aspects of a project and may also manage small projects which are simple and routine.

  • Maintain field equipment cleanliness and proper functioning.

  • Travel may be required.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Enthusiastic team player with a positive attitude.

  • The successful candidate will have a diverse skill set with local experience in field sampling methods, including Minnesota lakes and streams, and strong skills in environmental data analysis and statistics.

  • Dedication to successful project execution and technical excellence.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and function independently and as part of a team including technical writing.

  • A positive attitude and strong desire to grow professionally in aquatic sciences along with a passion for lifelong learning is key.

  • The ability to solve problems using critical thinking and practical problem solving, complete field work with consideration to their own and the team's safety is essential.

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.

  • Proficient in MS Office applications, ArcGIS, and R statistical programming is essential.

  • Experience with driving boats and trailers.

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, aquatic ecology, limnology, or biology.

Master’s degree in environmental sciences, aquatic ecology, limnology, or biology is preferred.

Minimum 1-3 years work experience; or an equivalent combination of education (e.g. advanced degree) and experience.

Some travel, including overnight travel, may be required for this position (up to 25%). Field work may include long days and exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
