Your Opportunity

Stantec is looking for an Environmental Scientist to join our Real Estate and Remediation team. This position will primarily be responsible for writing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments but will also manage data and write other environmental reports, including Phase II Site Assessments, Response Action Plans, and cleanup reports. This position will also include preparing site-specific health and safety plans, conducting field work, site reconnaissance audits, collecting soil/water/soil vapor samples for investigation and remediation oversight and documentation.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare Phase I Environmental Site Assessments

  • Attend project specific kick-off meetings.

  • Preparation of health & safety plans, work plans, reports, and other technical documents.

  • Completing work in a safe manner.

  • Review, communicate, and manage the project health and safety plan so that project personnel, client and subcontractors are aware of risks and hazards, and incidents are prevented.

  • Assist with preparation of state and federal environmental grants.

  • Oversee and conduct soil, groundwater, and soil vapor investigations and monitoring.

  • Observe, oversee and document environmental cleanup activities.

  • Complete site evaluations and prepare Investigation and Cleanup reports.

  • Conduct fieldwork, including travel, when necessary

  • Collect and interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Compiling, evaluating, analyzing, and presenting/reporting subsurface investigation data.

  • Understanding of engineering plans and specifications.

  • Coordination and oversight of subcontractors, including health and safety management.

  • Control project tasks cost, schedule, and quality of work.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required).

  • Working knowledge of field sampling techniques.

  • Must have the willingness to learn new skills while conducting field work in rural wilderness settings and flexibility in undertaking work assignments and work independently for long hours in the field as necessary.

  • Geologic logging and field bore log preparation.

  • Growth mindset.

  • Strong writing skills with a basic understanding of technical writing.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with both clients and project team members.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet strict project deadlines.

  • Ability to travel as required for proposal and project needs.

  • Good Driving record and valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to travel within MN and out of state.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or related field is required.

  • 40-Hr HAZWOPER training (preferred, but not required).

  • Minnesota Certified Asbestos Inspector (preferred, but not required).

  • Experience writing Phase I ESAs (preferred, but not required).

  • Experience logging soil borings and working around drill rigs (preferred, but not required).

  • Previous environmental consulting experience (may include internship) is required; 1-3 years of experience is preferred.

Position will be a mix of field and office work. Must be able to lift equipment items (up to 25 pounds) and operate tools such as hammer drills, hand augers, and other field equipment safely. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Extended hours and schedules may be necessary to fit project demands.
