About the role

Our established Victorian Civil team is looking for a Principal Civil Engineer with urban, infrastructure and commercial development experience to assist with leading the commercial community development team of engineers, designers, and drafters in our Melbourne office. Reporting directly to the Group Leader and having a significant role in managing the team.

Joining a team of 13 with an exciting future, you’ll assist with manage project teams and provide accurate and efficient engineering services in accordance with project times and budgets, reviewing designs and preparing fee proposals for multi-discipline projects.

You will also be a leading role in maintaining our existing client base, exploring new opportunities, and ensuring technical excellence from our design team. You will mentor and support staff, to ensure the right balance of skills within the team, fostering a high level of commitment, open communication, and team cohesion.

. Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Manage project teams and provide accurate and efficient engineering services in accordance with project times and budgets

  • To produce high quality design and drafting outputs to support the successful delivery of Business Unit Projects

  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates and evaluates all project progress and recommends changes

  • Represents project work in client meetings and continues to cultivate relationships with client organizations

  • Provide work leadership and training to more junior professional and technical staff and provides technical guidance to less experienced professionals or technicians assigned to work on a common project

  • Plans, conducts and coordinates engineering assignments, involving several smaller and some higher revenue projects, of varying complexity. Professional Licensed Engineer. Actively participates in local professional organization(s)

  • Assist with efficient and effective implementation of the Business Units Action Plan, and strive to achieve personal goals for technical expertise and recognition within the industry

  • Lead the Project Design team through the provision of accurate and effective design documentation in an efficient manner

  • Be a technical expert to support the Business Unit in the completion of design and documentation

  • Monitor the progress of work to ensure compliance with the required standards, program, and budget

  • Be alert to potential job opportunities and establish continuing rapport with clients

  • Provide relevant leadership to ensure development of junior staff

  • Plan resource needs in consultation with project managers working within the Business Unit

  • Participate in long- and short-term planning for the Business Unit

  • Develop strong working relationships with new and existing clients

Qualifications

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering and ideally be accredited as CPEng and/or RPEQ

  • Minimum of 7 years demonstrated civil design and management experience ideally in urban development

  • Relevant registration and professional accreditations

  • Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards

  • Team leadership and mentoring experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Interest in working on a broad variety of projects

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise with the team, managers and clients

  • Committed to self-improvement and continuing professional development

  • Drive and passion to solve problems and produce innovative solutions
