Your Opportunity

Stantec's Geotechnical and Materials Engineering Team is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Materials Testing and Inspection Technician to join our team in the Markham, ON office.

Note: This is a seasonal/contract related role.

Your Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will demonstrate initiative and will excel under minimal supervision. You will be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and skilled in delivering on your commitments. You will work with a team of engineers/scientists and other technologists/technicians performing general geotechnical, materials and environmental testing and inspection responsibilities. In brief, duties include but are not limited to:

  • Travel to sites, collection of samples, obtain field data

  • Concrete field testing

  • Compaction monitoring

  • Asphalt inspection

  • Construction Quality control/Quality assurance

  • Observe contractor activity

  • Inspection of soil conditions and bearing surface for the footings prior to the placement of concrete

  • Inspection of subgrade soils and observing proof rolling

  • Supervision of the installation of geotechnical instrumentation

  • Other general field related duties

  • Inspection of drill and test pit investigations

Laboratory Testing:

  • Completion of a full range of standard laboratory tests in soils, concrete and asphalt laboratories.

  • Reporting: You will be required to regularly complete detailed laboratory reports and submit them to the laboratory supervisor.


  • You will be expected to support team operations and play an integral part in the promotion of our health and safety culture, client relations, training and mentoring of more junior staff, equipment and resources maintenance and management, and other related duties will be expected.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

We are looking for an energetic team player who enjoy working with a team of engineering staff in providing superior service to our valued clients in Markham and the surrounding area. The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Registration with OACETT as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) is an asset

  • Effective communications skills (computer, written, oral)

  • Consulting or related experience

  • Direct experience in a similar role would be considered an asset.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.

  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License (G class) and access to their own personal vehicle.

  • Valid insurance policy to transport nuclear compaction testing equipment.

  • The ability to carry out moderate lifting and to traverse uneven ground will be required.

Education and Experience

Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum of 5 years of experience.

Position will require field work.
