Your Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Pipeline Engineer/Engineering Intern to join our team. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in pipeline engineering, contribute to meaningful projects, and grow their career in the energy sector. The successful candidate will work closely with senior engineers, supporting various stages of pipeline projects from design to implementation. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineering principles to select the best plan involving the collaboration with multiple stakeholders and expertise within the company. You will assist in verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards, specifications, procedures, and practices.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare technical deliverables such as engineering calculations, reports, engineering assessment, bills of materials under supervision of a professional engineer

  • Provide appropriate engineering input and a technical overview to design activities undertaken by design/drafting staff residing within or outside the project team

  • Contribute to cost estimates in small to large sized projects in collaboration with all other disciplines

  • Ensure that the deliverables provided to the project are technically accurate, within specifications, scope, budget and schedule, suitable for the intended purpose and in compliance with quality procedures and project plans

  • Perform design and review work and ensure the drafting of the pipeline engineering deliverables is complete and accurate

  • Create bills of materials and material requisitions and, if necessary, review quotations for compliance with technical specifications

  • Interface with other departments, project managers, engineers, clients and vendors during all phases of projects to ensure a good working interface and accurate exchange of technical data

  • Collaborate and coordinate with project team to determine and achieve project objectives

  • Review and update typical engineering designs, internal specifications and design calculations under the supervision of a senior engineer

  • Field engineering and field-based construction support as required (travel may be required)

  • Participate in regular project meetings

  • Provide reverse mentorship and take part in innovation leadership

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to deliver high-quality deliverables and check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Experience in (or exposure to) pipeline crossing methods such as horizontal directional drills, bores, microtunnels

  • Experience in (or exposure to) transmission and distribution pipeline design.

  • Understanding of CSA Z662 and federal/provincial pipeline regulations.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Thorough understanding of engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.

  • Bilingual (French and English) communication is considered an asset

  • Presentation and interview skills are preferred.

  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering preferred

  • Registration (or eligibility) as an engineering intern with PEO and/or OIQ

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience.
