Stantec is seeking an Estimator within our Program Management group with a background in a wide range of sectors.
The successful candidate will possess 5 years experience in an estimating role.
This position requires excellent communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a large multidisciplinary team to successfully deliver major capital projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsible for the preparation and review of all classes of estimates of probable costs at each design milestone on projects.
Take a lead role on estimating assignments, coordinating efforts with other disciplines and compiling information to produce the final estimate.
Support the Estimating Manager on estimating tasks and business development.
Provide guidance to junior estimating staff.
Provide innovative solutions to estimating issues and problems.
Assist in developing, maintaining and improving procedures, early phase cost models and tools for cost estimating including estimating software development and maintenance.
Establish site specific estimating criteria including wage and person-hour productivity rates.
Perform cost risk assessment and probabilistic simulations to establish project contingency and project reserve.
Develop cost loading for project schedule.
Support in procurement, contract changes and claims valuation and negotiations.
Work in seconded roles as required.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Advanced experience in civil/structural/architectural components for ICI buildings, mass transit systems, transportation, bridges, heavy construction and civil infrastructure.
Advanced technical knowledge of cost estimating, engineering design, construction practices and procurement.
Advanced knowledge of estimating methodologies, best practices and formats.
Advanced knowledge of project schedules and resource/cost loading.
Advanced knowledge of construction practices and constraints on large projects.
Knowledge of other estimating disciplines including Mechanical, Electrical and Subway Systems and specialized industry costing software and tools for each.
Ability to assist with development of a WBS and estimate multi-billion-dollar programs.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, direct, perform, review, and present cost estimating projects.
Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of applicable standards and procedures.
High level of attention to detail and ability to review third party estimates.
Ability to perform quality assurance.
Ability to make timely decisions and meet project deadlines.
Positive attitude with strong relationship building skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
Understanding of different procurement methods, contracts and how they apply to estimating.
Proficient in MS Office and knowledgeable of estimating software (Sage Estimating and Costworks).
Education and Experience
Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
5 years of experience in a Civil/Architectural/Structural estimating role. Construction experience is an asset.
PQS or MRICS designation is preferred.
