Stantec Urban Design Associate, Associate Director or Director in Manchester, United Kingdom

The opportunity:

Are you a masterplanning expert looking to work on projects of the highest quality and make a real difference to the communities around you? Could you lead and grow a team? Are you based in or looking to relocate to the Northwest?

We have an exciting opportunity for an Urban Design Associate, Associate Director, or Director (Masterplan led) to join our Northern Masterplanning team and to lead our urban design offer in Manchester, whilst contributing to the strategy and growth of the region. Our multi-disciplinary Manchester office has teams across Town Planning, Urban Design, Graphics, Heritage, Economics, Transport, Ecology, Acoustics and Engineering. We have recently moved into exciting new premises in 100 Barbirolli Square in the heart of Manchester city centre.

This is an excellent opportunity to lead and develop a design team in Manchester whilst being fully supported by regional colleagues. In your local office there is a well-established Town Planning team who provide excellent cross collaboration and business development opportunities. Typical projects include major residential led, mixed-use development masterplans and layouts, and public realm work of the highest quality across the North. This includes new communities, new settlements, as well as town and city centre masterplanning, and regeneration. Our clients include landowners, bespoke local developers, Registered Providers, national house builders and more, providing an enviable and loyal client list.Projects are typically those considered by clients to be more complex and challenging, needing the innovative and creative technical expertise and approach that we pride ourselves on. You will be an integral part of our innovative inter-disciplinary environment.

About you:

You will hold an MA or Postgraduate Diploma in Urban Design with a passion for creating new high quality and sustainable communities. You will have experience of working on large scale UK residential and mixed-use development masterplans, including new settlements and urban extensions in an Urban Design or Masterplanning role, ideally from another consultancy. You will have a vision for growth and have the drive to deliver it, whilst also:

  • Possessing the ability to manage projects and coordinate the production of Design and Access Statements.

  • Be strategic in your approach with strong attention to detail and the ability to see the bigger picture.

  • Presenting to a variety of audiences, including clients and large external multi-disciplinary consultancy teams.

  • Be proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup and Microsoft Packages.

  • Producing high quality hand drawings.

  • Having excellent team working skills, with the ability to lead workshops and develop consensus amongst multiple groups of stakeholders.

  • Having experience of managing or mentoring junior team members

  • Holding a full UK driving licence and have access to a car.
