Your Opportunity

As a part-time / temporary Senior Biologist, you will work in a highly dynamic team environment with other biologists/ecologists/water resource specialists. This position will include opportunities for both field and office work. As a Senior Biologist/Ecologist, you will oversee and provide expertise in field biology and botany. Specific background and expertise should consist of strong field botanical experience with a focus on non-vascular plants (mosses, bryophytes, liverworts) of the Southeastern United States. This position requires coordination with resource agencies, and environmental and technical staff.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee biological impact assessment, and preparation and review of biological resources documents.

  • Provide support in delivering high quality work products to Stantec’s multi-disciplinary project teams.

  • Support in establishing relationships with regulatory agency staff.

  • Reviewing and analyzing scientific data, maps, and drawings.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skills are essential.

  • Demonstrated experience preparing, reviewing, and/or providing direction for biological technical reports including field surveys and reporting.

  • Demonstrated success with research, analysis, and reporting.

  • Possess Southeast-specific field biology / botany experience (minimum 7-10 years) with a specialty on non-vascular plants (mosses, bryophytes, liverworts).

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

  • Desired authorization(s): possession of a Tennessee Scientific Collecting Permit.

  • Desired skill: experience with agency negotiations for regulatory compliance.

  • General understanding of geographic information systems.

  • Ability to direct staff technicians regarding data collection, preparation of figures and maps, and report production.

  • Ability to travel.

  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience

MS or PhD degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.

Minimum 7-10 years of experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
