Your Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists in our Waterloo, or London office, for a successful candidate to become the Business Center Operations Leader (BCOL) for the Community Development team in southwest Ontario. You will be responsible for the Business Center’s (BC) operations, financial management, and people leadership for a team comprised of approximately 120 professionals. You will provide support to the Business Center Practice Leaders (BCPL’s) regarding local delivery of professional services. You will implement effective business strategies and motivate other team leaders and project managers within the BC to deliver on targeted objectives. You are expected to maintain contact with key clients by taking part in business development activities, contributing to proposals and projects, reviewing client agreements, etc. The BCOL reports directly to the Regional Business Leader (RBL).

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of the Business Centers operation, financial performance, and people management.

  • Ensures that Health and Safety key performance indicators are achieved and takes the lead on developing a Health and Safety culture within the BC.

  • Ensures compliance with Stantec's policies, practices, and procedures by all staff within the BC.

  • Works with the BCPL to develop the BC's annual strategic business plan outlining the vision, focus, and priorities for implementation and sets specific goals for performance and/or growth for the BC.

  • Develops the BC’s annual budget and is responsible for achieving the operational and financial objectives.

  • Establishes and maintains Stantec's position as one of the top professional services firms in the region for Infrastructure services.

  • Partners with and provides support to the BCPL’s to ensure effective project delivery for our clients.

  • Works collaboratively with BC, regional and national leadership to achieve business objectives.

  • Fosters collaboration across business lines.

  • Attracts, develops, and retains high quality staff.

  • Identifies and actively manages business development and enhancement opportunities.

  • Manages workload and utilization for the BC.

  • Participates in and leads proposal preparation and consultation.

  • Implements and manages continuous improvement of processes, systems, and technology.

  • Participates in the BC’s staffing process, contributing to the strategic talent management plan, and staff selection.

  • Ensures delivery of the BC’s employee compensation, career development, performance reviews and succession planning, in conjunction with the other BC leaders.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Thorough understanding of the development industry (including public and private sector Planning, Landscape Architecture, Engineering and Construction Management), and Surveying and Geomatics;

  • Proven leadership experience including operational, financial, people and project management;

  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and people skills;

  • Demonstrated experience in the management of large professional teams, preferably in an integrated design environment;

  • Demonstrated integrity, accountability, creativity, high standards, ethical values, and achievement orientation;

  • Excellent organizational, strategic planning and implementation skills;

  • Committed to succession planning and staff development;

  • Proven ability to articulate vision and create a high level of engagement with staff;

  • Ability to build and maintain lasting relationship with internal groups, key business partners and clients;

  • Ability to negotiate skillfully in challenging situations with both internal and external groups.

  • Perform well under pressure;

  • Works effectively in an entrepreneurial, multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment and able to lead and work in harmony with a diverse group of highly motivated and capable individuals;

  • Strong sense of teamwork and community.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Science, Business, or related field;

  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of professional experience and possess a thorough understanding of the business operations and financial aspects of the Planning, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Management profession.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
