Join Stantec’s environmental services group a as a Water Resources Engineer (PE). This is a unique opportunity to advance your career with a growing water resources practice focusing on FEMA Flood Studies, Watershed Modeling, Flood Mitigation, Stormwater Studies and Application Development.

Stantec is open to candidates in Nashville, Chattanooga, or Knoxville, Tennessee, Alabama and Raleigh, North Carolina.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, task manage, and project manage watershed and flood studies and stormwater management projects

  • Oversee hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tasks for a variety of water resources projects including dams, levee systems, watershed and floodplain studies and stormwater systems

  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on projects

  • Assist in FEMA Risk Map studies and assist in USACE H&H analyses

  • Mentor & supervise junior engineers and technicians

  • Effectively convey proposed work, task schedules and results in technical documents

  • Conduct field investigations on various projects including but not limited to: dam inspections, hydrology and hydraulic evaluations, and levee inspections

  • Present project information at client and community meetings

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Prior experience in FEMA Risk Map and Floodplain/Watershed Studies

  • Prior experience in task or project management, especially FEMA Risk Map studies

  • Prior experience with local, state, federal, or watershed/flood control district clients

  • Required Engineering Software experience:

    • USACE HEC-RAS (1D and 2D)
  • Preferred Engineering Software experience:

    • USACE HEC-HMS, and USACE HEC-DSSVue
    • EPA-SWMM and/or PC-SWMM
    • ESRI ArcGIS
  • Possesses excellent time management skills; thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources

  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies

  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation

  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought

  • Prior experience mentoring junior engineering staff or technicians

  • Possesses team leadership skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong presentation and interview skills are preferred

Additional Capabilities Considered:

  • Advanced GIS experience such as Model Builder, Python, and advanced analysis tools, a plus

  • Experience with programming languages such as C , a plus

Education and Experience

  • BS or MS degree in Civil, Biosystems, or Environmental Engineering or related field

  • PE Certification required

  • 5 - 10 years’ related experience

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
