Your Opportunity

Stantec has an opportunity for an Intermediate Wildlife Biologist to work with our terrestrial wildlife team. The position will be based in one of our British Columbia offices (Sidney, Burnaby, Terrace, Kelowna, Kamloops, or Prince George). The ideal candidate for this position is one that can lead wildlife field work and work in a team environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading wildlife field programs, collecting and analyzing wildlife field data, preparing components of environmental assessments, writing wildlife management and monitoring plans, supporting caribou mitigation and offsetting plans, and supporting environmental permitting activities for a variety of projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment Program

  • Develop, manage, and implement terrestrial wildlife field programs such as biophysical inventories

  • Technical writing and report preparation such as environmental assessments, management and monitoring plans, and compliance reports

  • Coordinate and track assignments, scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables and manage tasks according to approved scopes of work

  • Communicate with clients and project management teams

  • Provide safety and technical support to junior staff

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong wildlife identification skills throughout British Columbia, including amphibians, reptiles, birds (visual and auditory), and mammals; ability to identify wildlife habitat features.

  • Wildlife handling skills, such as amphibians and reptiles, are an asset.

  • Ability to develop and manage field programs for terrestrial wildlife; demonstrated experience in safely executing wildlife field programs.

  • Able to endure long days of physically and mentally challenging fieldwork while maintaining a positive, solutions-focused attitude.

  • Experience supervising and/or leading field teams

  • Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and regulations that relate to terrestrial wildlife.

  • Knowledge of and experience with caribou habitat restoration, mitigation, and offsetting is an asset

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience preparing and coordinating environmental assessments, impact statements, mitigation and management plans, and other regulatory applications

  • Strong interpersonal and social skills and ability to interact across a broad range of audiences/ technical backgrounds including internal and external clients, regulatory agencies, and Indigenous groups

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor or graduate degree in biology, or a related discipline from a recognized university is preferable.

  • Registration with the British Columbia College of Applied Biology as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) or Registered Biology Technologists (R.B. Tech.) is a requirement.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant consulting experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining stationary at a workstation for long periods of time. Field work may include work in remote environments, challenging terrain, and exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • (Lower Mainland $76,100/ BC Other Areas $71,800 - (Lower Mainland $110,300/ BC Other Areas $104,100 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
