Overview

Stantec’s ESG Advisory group turns strategy into action. Our team, including scientists, engineers, regulatory specialists, and finance experts with subject matter expertise across the domain of ESG, is adept at helping clients develop a comprehensive and pragmatic ESG strategy, implement actions to manage and build resilience to ESG risks, measure progress toward ESG goals, and report progress to a diverse audience of stakeholders. Our practical approach is informed by our global design, science, and engineering experience, shaping a sustainable future for our clients and communities.

We provide strategic guidance to sectors spanning agriculture, energy, financial institutions, food and beverage, information technology, infrastructure, manufacturing, mining, and telecom. Our professionals offer a full suite of services including materiality assessment; ESG strategy development, implementation, and reporting; climate change adaptation and planning; Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission quantification and verification; risk and opportunity assessment; decarbonization planning and program management; nature-based solutions, supply chain management, assessment and management of worker, consumer, and community health risks; community engagement and environmental justice; and due diligence assessment.

We have an immediate opening for a Senior ESG Consultant to join our US-based ESG Advisory Team.

Your Responsibilities

  • Apply a deep understanding of the ESG landscape, regulatory requirements, reporting frameworks, rating agencies, and best practices

  • Guide clients through the process of establishing sustainability priorities and strategy by leading activities such as materiality assessments, industry benchmarking, ESG due diligence, and ESG risk and opportunity

  • Enable clients to credibly act on sustainability strategy through ESG target-setting, implementation planning, performance monitoring, and reporting

  • Lead projects from inception to completion, including activities such as identifying new opportunities with clients, project design, leading proposals, advising on project strategy and management, providing technical oversight and quality assurance, monitoring financial performance, and serving as a strategic partner to clients

  • Lead teams and invest in the technical and professional development of our growing ESG Advisory group by mentoring mid- and early-career staff and serving in a supervisory capacity

  • Drive growth by effectively managing client relationships, quickly mobilizing teams to respond to client needs, and delivering high-quality technical work products

  • Demonstrate thought leadership by authoring blogs, white papers, and briefing documents, as well as, leadership of industry and technical advisory groups and participation in conference panels

  • Initiate business development through engagement with existing and potential clients, demonstrating expertise, innovation, and the ability to address client concerns

  • Oversee the production of proposals, technical work products, presentations, and deliverables in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment

  • Communicate effectively to both internal and external audiences, including executives, to represent Stantec’s ESG Advisory team as the partner best positioned to turn clients’ ESG strategy into action

  • Develop, foster, and maintain client relationships by understanding and interpreting industry trends, client needs, stakeholder priorities, and overall business objectives

Qualifications

Your Qualifications

  • Comprehensive understanding of ESG disclosure rules (e.g., Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), frameworks (e.g., Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures), and various rating systems

  • Experience serving as a strategic advisor on ESG issues and developing comprehensive ESG risk management strategies and/or programming

  • A passion for helping clients improve environmental and social impacts through ESG programming that also enhances corporate value and fosters alignment with stakeholder priorities

  • Experience with and ability to use quantification and data visualization tools such as Microsoft Excel and PowerBI

  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of justice, equity, and inclusion

  • Subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas:

    • GHG accounting protocols (e.g., WRI/WBCSD, PCAF), reduction planning, and regulatory reporting
    • ESG due diligence assessments, including those for financial institutions and/or private equity necessitating familiarity with the Equator Principles, International Finance Corporation Environmental and Social Performance Standards
    • Human rights risk assessment and management, including responsible sourcing and supply chain, supplier engagement and training, and modern slavery reporting
    • Circular economy, including life cycle and product impact assessments
  • Experience that demonstrates a deep understanding of the broader impacts of climate change on health, well-being, and equity of various communities

  • Experience providing ESG and/or sustainability training to an executive-level audience

  • Demonstrated success in client and project acquisition and retention.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a history of demonstrating thought leadership in the form of publications, external presentations, or other public-facing communications

  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative research skills, and an inclination for problem-solving

  • Excellent time-management skills, with the ability to interpret and effectively manage multiple and competing priorities and timelines

  • Experience identifying and cultivating new business development opportunities

  • Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to occasionally travel

  • Must be business-oriented and have a natural inclination to understand how things work, to fix things, to find ways around problems, and agility to move between challenges that arise

  • Must be at ease with simple as well as complex tasks, practical and intellectual tasks

  • Must be a results-oriented individual with the ability to interpret and effectively manage multiple and competing priorities and timelines

  • Must be committed to treating colleagues, partners, and clients with dignity and respect at all times

Education and Experience

BS in environmental science, engineering, energy, public health, public policy, sustainability, or related degree; MS or PhD preferred.

15 years of professional experience (a combination of experience and applicable graduate training is acceptable) in sustainability, climate change, risk management, and/or management consulting

Experience leading multiple projects and teams simultaneously

Experience managing teams and supervising staff

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $146,600 - $227,300 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO and HI

  • Bay Area $$168,000/Other CA Locations $$146,600 - Bay Area $$260,300/Other CA Locations $$227,300 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.

The benefits information listed above may not apply to union positions because benefits for such positions are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreements.
