Your Opportunity

As a Transportation Engineer, you will leverage your experience with State Department of Transportation projects where you will have responsibility for the design and delivery of transportation engineering projects in various phases from conceptual planning, through design, construction, and completion.

You will perform a variety of tasks that will require the application of sound principles and best practices. The role of a Transportation Engineer is to work independently and as a team member on small and large projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. The Transportation Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. You will analyze proposed projects to ensure reliability, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare project plans and drawings for various projects including urban and rural roadways, highways, rail, transit, trails, and intersections

  • Perform complex engineering design tasks for urban and rural highway projects per Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT’s) design standards

  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate the technical aspects of assigned projects

  • Train developing staff on design software packages for roadway 3D modeling

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Thorough understanding of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions

  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation

  • Proficiency in Microstation and OpenRoads 3D modelling toolsProficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, including writing technical reports and memos using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Strong knowledge of the Department of Transportation's legal requirements, design/planning procedures, and PSE plan production in relevant jurisdictions

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical though, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues and solutions to others

  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field

  • Licensed Professional Engineer required. Existing Texas PE or ability to obtain a Texas PE within six months of hire required

  • Minimum of 5 years of post-bachelor’s, progressive related work experience; or a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field, and 3 years of related work experience; TxDOT Precertification preferred

You will work in an open-concept office setting. Local travel may be required for attending client or public meetings, scoping new assignments, and visiting project sites.
