We have provided services to our clients on over 2,800 renewable energy projects throughout the US since 2010. Our staff includes Certified Wildlife Biologists, Professional Wetland Scientists, Professional Engineers and subject matter experts with extensive prior experience working with state, local, and federal agencies. Effective environmental analysis, assessment, and design also requires multiple capabilities such as project management, technical writing skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with agencies and interested stakeholders. The Stantec team brings these skills together to guide our clients’ projects to market.
Stantec’s Environmental Services practice seeks a Project Manager to provide project management related to environmental surveying, reporting, and permitting services with a focus on renewable energy clients in the Gulf Coast region.
This position can be based out of any Stantec location in Texas or Louisiana – other locations and remote work may be considered.
Your Key Responsibilities
Assist in growing our renewables environmental services program in the Gulf Coast Region, including both onshore (wind, solar, battery storage) and offshore projects.
Provide technical leadership and project management on environmental planning and permitting projects for renewable and other power sector clients.
Identify project-specific environmental design and regulatory requirements for renewables projects.
Manage permit applications and agency coordination related to Endangered Species Act, Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, Coastal Zone Management Act, and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
Coordinate technical documents and provide review of technical documents that support regulatory submissions.
Task and project management responsibilities include developing proposals; managing projects and budgets; coordinating with clients, stakeholders, and internal project staff; and performing and overseeing project technical work.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Experience managing environmental permitting projects in the renewable energy sector. Experience with other power sector projects (e.g., transmission and distribution) would be beneficial.
Experience with local, state and federal environmental regulations and permitting in the Gulf Coast Region. Experience in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi strongly desired. Additional experience in New Mexico would be viewed as an asset.
Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to prioritize and balance sometimes heavy workloads to achieve goals while keeping up with a highly mobile and changing environment.
Must have strong oral and written communication skills, and be customer focused to understand and appropriately respond to client’s business needs.
Must have ability and desire to travel for project work activities (up to 25% travel).
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences, environmental science, or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience with technical specialization and expertise in the environmental compliance, natural resource assessments and studies, and permitting. Project and task management experience is required.
This position will be in a typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
