The Opportunity

  • Stantec Consulting Services Inc. (Stantec) is currently seeking an experienced Bridge Inspection Team Leader, certified per the National Bridge Inspection Standards, to work as part of our Bridge Inspection Team located in Texas. This position will entail inspection of both bridges and bridge class culverts on highways throughout Texas and the United States according to:

  • National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), 23 CFR Part 650 Subpart C

  • Inspection of Fracture Critical Bridge Members (Report No. FHWA-IP-86-26)

  • AASHTO Manual for Bridge Element Inspection

  • Recording and Coding Guide for the Structure Inventory and Appraisal of the Nation’s Bridges

  • Specifications for the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI)

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Management of a bridge inspection team within Texas

  • Leading a team of inspectors in the field on routine and/or complex bridge inspection assignments

  • Preparing detailed reports of inspection findings and recommendations

  • Identifying and making repair recommendations

  • Tracking, scheduling, performing, and assisting with in-service inspections

  • Developing recommendations to clients

  • Responsible for the quality of work and quality control of client submittals

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Be a detailed oriented and highly organized individual demonstrating initiative and commitment

  • Strong math, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experienced in Microsoft computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel, and Access).

  • Out of town travel for inspections will average one to two weeks a month but may be longer during summer months.

  • Works well in a team environment in both field and office assignments with the ability to adapt to changing work environments.

  • Able to withstand high levels of physical exertion including walking, climbing, bending, carrying, and lifting up to 30 lbs.

  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License.

  • Prior to employment with Stantec you will be required to pass a pre-employment Drug/Alcohol screening.

Required Education and Experience

  • Have the education and/or experience to be or become TxDOT pre-certified in Category 6.1.2 Routine Bridge Inspection Team Leader. https://www.txdot.gov/business/peps/become-precertified.html , that is one who has one of the following qualifications and can provide a copy of their current NHI certification including 130053 refresher if applicable:
    • is a Professional Engineer in the state of Texas, who has successfully completed National Highway Institute (NHI) training course # 130055, “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges” or # 130056, "Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers" and has a minimum of one year experience in National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) bridge inspections; or
    • has a minimum of five years of NBIS bridge inspection experience, and has successfully completed National Highway Institute (NHI) training course # 130055, “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges”; or
    • has all of the following:
      • a bachelor’s degree in engineering from a college or university accredited by or determined as substantially equivalent by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology; and
      • successfully passed the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying Fundamentals of Engineering examination; and
      • a minimum of two years of NBIS bridge inspection experience; and
      • has successfully completed NHI training course # 130055, “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges”; or
    • has all of the following:
      • an associate’s degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university accredited by or determined as substantially equivalent by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology; and
      • a minimum of four years of NBIS bridge inspection experience; and
      • has successfully completed NHI training course # 130055, “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges”

Beneficial Education and Experience

  • Have the education and/or experience to be or become TxDOT pre-certified in Category 6.2.1 Complex Bridge Inspection Team Leader. https://www.txdot.gov/business/peps/become-precertified.html ,

  • Have the education and/or experience to be or become TxDOT pre-certified in Category 6.3.1 Tunnel Inspection Team Leader. https://www.txdot.gov/business/peps/become-precertified.html ,

  • Have the education and/or experience to be or become TxDOT pre-certified in Category 6.4.1 Underwater Bridge Inspection Team Leader. https://www.txdot.gov/business/peps/become-precertified.html ,

  • Experience with coding using SNBI.

  • Experience with TxDOT’s current Bridge Inspection Manual (BIM).

  • Experience with Bentley’s AssetWise bridge inspection management software.

  • SPRAT Climbing and/or FAA 107 Drone Certification.

  • Experience performing Element Level bridge inspections and experience with AASHTOWare Bridge Management (BrM) software.

  • Experience performing steel and concrete structure load ratings with AASHTOWare Bridge Rating software.

  • Structural analysis of highway bridges and/or other structures including culverts, overhead sign supports and/or tunnels.

  • Experienced in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation drafting experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
