Our Water Division is experiencing significant growth, presenting the opportunity for a Dams Engineer based in either our Auckland or Wellington office. This position is crucial for supporting ongoing and new dams’ projects, both locally, regionally and internationally.

About the role:

The Senior Dam Engineer is integral to the contribution of the Stantec business goals by providing technical leadership and technical expertise in the specialist areas of dam engineering, dam safety, and design management. You will provide valuable support to the project manager/team leader to ensure that project outcomes meet both the client and Stantec expectations.

The Senior Dam Engineer is responsible for:

  • Provide technical leadership and technical expertise in the specialist area of dam engineering and dam safety to meet project needs.

  • Determine client requirements, conduct, and manage site surveys and investigations, produce reports, calculations, specifications and drawings to ensure that technical designs provide appropriate solutions.

  • Depending on current skillset or career development focus, project work may include investigations and analysis, structural/geotechnical assessments, hydrology/hydraulic assessments, safety reviews, feasibility studies, dam safety and construction.

  • Plan, program and coordinate the specific projects with the Project Manager to deliver the agreed outputs on budget, on time and to quality standards.

  • Prepare expressions of interest, proposals, tender documents and contracts, and carry out other appropriate marketing initiatives in consultation with the Market Sector Lead.

  • Mentor staff to develop technical capabilities and assist in building a team with a focus on dam engineering and dam safety.

  • Working in a team environment with industry leading professionals from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines.

  • Interfacing with multiple disciplines to develop detailed designs or solutions.

Developing trusted client relationships and assisting in business development activities including client account management.

To be successful for this role you'll present:

  • Tertiary Qualification in relevant Engineering field along with CPEng (or equivalent, or the ability/plan to obtain Chartership/Registration).

  • Significant experience in dam engineering field(s) and/or dam safety.

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients.

  • Highly developed consulting skills to liaise with clients and other stakeholders to achieve mutually successful project outcomes.

  • Solid report writing with the ability to tell a compelling story.

  • A desire to engage in all facets of Dam Engineering/Dam Safety, for a range of dam types.

  • Development into a key member of the dams team, supporting colleagues in project related work as well as mentorship to junior members.
