We are looking for a talented Utilities Project Manager focused on the planning, engineering, and design of utilities for large transportation infrastructure projects who wants to be part of a purpose-driven organization that’s focused on helping our clients, colleagues and communities thrive. Your Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, organize and communicate with utility design teams for transit & rail, highways, streets, and roadway projects to meet local, state and federal requirements.

  • Use independent judgment to analyze issues, interpret information and select methods and solutions to resolve problems.

  • Work with utilities design lead and specific utility design leads on large to mega transportation projects

  • Assist utilities design lead or Senior Project Manager in providing design leads guidance on design solutions.

  • Assist Senior Project Manager with planning, analysis and design of projects, scheduling staff, review of work, training and mentoring staff, project presentation, project management, fiscal management, and contract negotiations.

  • Assist in development of project management plans for projects; supports establishing goals and objectives for unique and complex projects.

  • Conducts and/or coordinates quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects or designs and facilitates independent technical review of projects by others.

  • Involved in the permitting process of projects, which may require meeting with clients, contractors, interested stakeholder parties, reviewing agency personnel.

  • Coordinates with the regulatory and third parties to seek final approval.

  • Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.

  • Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating.

  • Participant on multidisciplinary teams in an office environment as well as in virtual team environment.

  • Assist in drafting proposals, drafting correspondence, and completing progress reports.

  • Ability to work effectively independently and also as part of a team.

  • Willingness to learn new skills and interface with multiple project managers and clients.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to support all aspects of utility design (third party requirements, right-of-way needs, interface with other design disciplines, obtain third party approvals) with an emphasis on technical and project delivery excellence

  • Knowledge of utility industry practice and demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer service

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with large utility companies, such as PG&E, AT&T and others

  • Demonstrated experience in design of complex utilities for transportation projects in California

  • Support decision making on large projects

  • Demonstrated knowledge working with irrigation districts in California

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Understanding of Caltrans utility relocation procedures

  • Understanding of utility right of way deliverables

  • Direct experience in client management and business development is an asset

  • Can work well in a team environment without direct supervision

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks

  • Possess a hard-working and positive attitude

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients, contractors, funding agencies and reviewing agencies; to deliver technical presentations in public forums

  • Possesses excellent time-management skills, thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and available resources.

  • Understanding of local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any Engineering field

  • Minimum 5 years related experience in utilities preferably for utility and transportation projects

  • Demonstrated experience in client service management.

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, including defining and setting the direction for a team, project, and office; strategy development; change management; and corporate stewardship.

  • Demonstrated experience in decision making, including making sound defensible business decisions; and identifying, assessing, evaluating and solving complex problems.

  • Travel to other projects sites and other offices may be required.

  • Engineer In Training (EIT) preferred not required.

  • Registered Professional Engineer in California, preferred not required.

Typical office environment includes working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • CA Other Areas $93,400 - CA Other Areas $135,400 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
