Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists in our Edmonton office for a Bridge Engineer to become part of a dynamic Transportation Engineering group in our Edmonton, Alberta office. Stantec’s Transportation Team has a strong local presence but also participates in some of Stantec’s largest and most complex transportation projects. These projects encompass the entire life of the facility – from feasibility studies through detailed design and construction oversight. Your Key Responsibilities

  • As a Bridge Engineer in our Alberta North Transportation Group, you will be responsible for working with senior bridge engineers and design teams in the following areas:

  • Execution and delivery of projects including planning, preliminary design and detail design

  • Development of structural rehabilitation and replacement strategies, completing structural analysis, design for a variety of transportation structures

  • Preparing contract drawings, design details, and reports for various bridge types and other transportation structures

  • Supervising and mentoring junior bridge engineers and bridge technologists

  • Regular collaboration with colleagues in our multi-disciplined design office

  • Coordination with sub-consultants

  • Undertaking bridge, culvert and other structural inspections to assess condition

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Good knowledge of relevant bridge design codes, particularly CHBDC and AREMA

  • Good knowledge of Alberta Transportation design practice manuals, standards and policies.

  • Experiene on a variety of bridge design assignments, with responsibility for assessing repair/replacement strategies

  • Experience with structural design software such as SAP2000, CSiBridge or equivalent

  • Proven experience in non-routine inspections and emergency response, and developing strategies for urgently deficient structures

  • Demonstrated experience with innovative bridge technologies, including ABC

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to lead individuals on project assignments in a team environment

  • Experience in the Alberta Market

  • Enthusiastic attitude with interest in skills development, continual improvement and mentoring

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, focusing on structural engineering, with preference for individuals with or working towards registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Minimum of 10 years of bridge-related work experience

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
