Your Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Director of Marketing, Buildings, the Senior Visual Communication Designer (SVCD) is a design expert that applies practical knowledge to promote the vision of the company through high-quality design work. The SVCD collaborates directly with a larger team of marketing professionals to artfully develop and execute new visual concepts within our existing design framework and partners with key stakeholders to establish Stantec’s position in multiple target markets.

Success is represented by the development of Stantec’s relationship with key clients, building on the reputation of the firm and our success at winning work. The role also includes working with a larger Stantec team of Marketing, Business Development, Public Relations, and Communications professionals to build our brand awareness and identify market opportunities for top line growth.

Key Responsibilities

The heart of this position consists of three core responsibilities:

Brand Application - Elevate our brand to achieve creative and iconic design solutions

Design Discipline - Implement design best practices across disciplines

Project Management - Help lead planning and organizing design projects

The SVCD is an ambassador of the brand and applies all three of these core responsibilities with equal importance.

Brand Application:

  • Create and execute a broad and diverse portfolio of design projects working towards compelling and iconic design solutions that align with our brand

  • Design proposal and business development materials focusing on revenue generation opportunities (top client pursuits, top regional/business line clients) and brand promotions

  • Produce digital, social, and email marketing materials following brand programs and guidelines

  • Design for special events (client receptions, virtual and in-person trade shows, webinars etc.), incorporating visual experiences that are memorable and educational

  • Communicate key messages effectively and tailor designs to the audience and business requirements

  • Provide strategic recommendations on appropriate mediums and tactics to help achieve successful outcomes (print and/or digital)

  • Exercises independent judgment to analyze issues, interpret information, and select methods and solutions to resolve problems within standard practice guidelines

  • Function as a key marketing photography contact, providing on-site art direction

  • Prepare creative briefs for photographers and contribute ideas that bring to life our photography guidelines

Design Discipline:

  • Collaborate with marketing team members on projects (proposal and business development materials) as a brand champion, sharing insights for potential improvement in the areas of brand alignment and visual communication

  • Participate in design peer 1:1 partnerships, sharing inspiration and ideas

  • Work with the design/marketing team to educate internal clients on brand guidelines and design best practices

  • Deliver design/template training and share updates with Buildings BOU marketing team

  • Conduct ongoing benchmarking to remain fully informed of industry trends, technologies, design software, and competitor branding and campaigns

  • Share insight on the implementation of brand standards with the Director, Brand & Design

Project Management:

  • Manage design projects from concept to completion

  • Lead brainstorming sessions and developing ideas for project themes

  • Seek input proactively and engage others for contributions; conducting meetings to understand needs/scope of a project

  • Present creative concepts to team members and internal clients, sharing the inspiration behind their work

  • Incorporate feedback in a thoughtful way, responding with several options

  • Manage and complete all work on time, within brand guidelines, and error-free; reporting status of projects to supervisors

  • Organize tasks, prioritize, and successfully juggling multiple projects and priorities

  • Expertly link short timeframes with high-quality work

  • Move projects through production, liaison with external vendors if required (print, etc.)

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Visual Communication Design or related field

  • Minimum 5-8 years of professional graphic design experience in medium- to large-sized organization or design agency

Other Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of and expertise in the role of a Visual Communication Designer

  • Detail oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills

  • Ability to effectively balance conflicting priorities

  • Commitment to client service and ability to work in a team-oriented environment

  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior management, supervisors, peers, and clients, internally and externally

  • Ability to work effectively within a group as well as independently motivated with minimal supervision

  • Strong presentation skills in small or large group environments, with proficiency in presentation support tools

  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

  • Working knowledge in digital design best practices, UX, Ceros, After Effects, XD an asset

  • Awareness that ongoing training may involve professional development courses in the evenings or on weekends

  • Available to work overtime to meet project deadlines on an as needed basis

Salary Range(s):

  • $36.06 - $52.31 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO and HI

  • SF Area $41.30 - SF Area $59.90 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
