Your Opportunity

The Proposal Manager (PM) collaborates with the Water Business Line’s Sales Managers (SM), Marketing Team Lead, Strategic Pursuits Team, and technical pursuit teams to drive strategy and positioning, as well as successfully deliver winning proposals and interviews. This role requires 10 years in AEC marketing and/or business development, as well as exceptional skills in communication, collaboration, leadership, team motivation, storytelling, interview coaching, and most importantly, the personal commitment to win. The SPM is required to be highly detail-oriented and self-motivated and bring proven, successful experience leading major proposals/pursuits in a high-performing, deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Client Development

  • Develop strong/trusted relationships with internal clients, teaming partners, and internal colleagues while functioning in a high-performing, fast-paced team environment.

  • Leverage a broad understanding of industry-wide trends to inform proposal development activities.

Pursuit Management

  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership, working with diverse pursuit teams to confirm client needs, challenges, and drivers. This could include client workshops, brown bags, or other intel gathering meetings directly relevant to the positioning phase.

  • Storyboard to achieve a visually persuasive story that is compliant with the client’s evaluation and selection criteria.

  • Lead the entire proposal process to produce high-quality, winning proposals and interviews, including:

    • Facilitating kick-off, document review, and other pursuit-related meetings.
    • Assisting with the development and writing of qualification and technical sections, including editing, and developing new and creative ways to convey detailed information.
    • Collaborating with graphic designers to develop key graphics and layouts to facilitate better story telling.
    • Coordinating with junior marketing staff to develop resumes, project descriptions, etc.
    • Managing the pursuit schedule to meet client deadlines on time.
    • Providing quality control and compliance reviews, as well as other services as required, to create a winning submittal that is aligned and compliant with the client’s evaluation and selection criteria.
  • Share marketing and sales materials, information, knowledge, and best practices with other regional and business line marketing team members across Stantec.

  • Ensure that all marketing and sales documents comply with our corporate branding guidelines and client confidentiality requirements.

  • Support presentation development and coaching of interview teams.

  • Oversee assigned proposal staff, all proposal-related documents, and high-quality deliverables.

  • Be recognized by internal and external associates as an expert in proposal management.

  • Contribute to best practices and process improvement initiatives.

Delivering Business Results

  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, and quality to deliver profitability with a strong ROI.

  • 70% capture rate and 70% hit rate on all assigned pursuits.

  • Support GO/NOGO analysis and Readiness Reviews.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • BS degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in sales/business development within in the A/E/C. industry, consistently meeting or exceeding targets.

  • Proven history of leading proposals greater than $5 million.

Other Requirements

  • Expertise in the full spectrum of the complex sales lifecycle and understanding of competitive procurement processes.

  • Travel requirements can range up to 5%

  • Detail-oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills and ability to effectively balance multiple priorities.

  • Presentation skills in small or large group environments, with proficiency in presentation support tools (e.g., PowerPoint).

  • Ability to work effectively within a group, as well as independently motivated with minimal supervision.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $95,000 - $142,600 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO and HI

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
