Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individual with a keen interest in the environmental remediation field to join our team. This position is located at a client facility that formerly was a petroleum refinery. The individual will assist with the operation and maintenance of a large groundwater remediation system, conduct environmental monitoring, perform environmental testing associated with well hydraulics, LNAPL recovery, and assist the client with overall environmental permit compliance and site maintenance.

This is a full-time position. The job is located in Arkansas City, Kansas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot environmental remediation systems that may include groundwater pumping, vacuum extraction, air sparging, plumbing and electrical components

  • Position requires strict adherence to Stantec health and safety procedures including client-specific training, attention to detail, good work ethic, a passion for high quality workmanship, and excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Conduct NPDES sampling and monitoring, prepare monthly discharge monitoring reports

  • Inspect RCRA regulated units; comply with hazardous waste permit requirements

  • Conduct stormwater inspections and assist facility environmental personnel with stormwater management; comply with stormwater pollution prevention (SWP2) plan

  • Assist facility environmental and operations personnel with spill prevention, control and countermeasures (SPCC) plan including required inspection and assistance with spill response

  • Support and implement health and safety policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.

  • Communicate and collaborate with other Environmental and Regulatory Specialists to ensure consistency in project execution

  • Work well in team atmosphere and work independently as required

  • Assist client with interactions with regulatory personnel during facility permit compliance inspections

  • Conduct groundwater, soil, sediment, and surface water sampling; monitor LNAPL and groundwater levels in monitoring wells in accordance with approved sampling plans

  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships

Capabilities and Credentials

  • Must demonstrate good mechanical and equipment diagnostic skills with experience working on equipment and machinery (pumps, electrical systems, oil water separators, plumbing etc.) and experience using basic hand and power tools.

  • Experience/knowledge of hazardous materials and emergency response is desirable

  • Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning

  • Excellent note taking and record keeping skills and attention to detail

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required

  • The work environment includes at least 50 percent of the time outdoors during all seasons including inclement weather

  • Ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs. on a repeated basis

  • Must be able to safely climb a ladder on a repeated basis

  • Strong computer skills, especially with the Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook. Experience with Microsoft Access, ArcGIS, and Golden Software’s Grapher and Surfer programs is a plus.

  • Willingness to learn new skills while conducting field work

Education and Experience

Technical degree or higher (Bachelor’s degree preferred) in Environmental Science, or related field

Minimum of 5 years’ experience with demonstrated experience with groundwater monitoring and operation/maintenance of high capacity groundwater and LNAPL extraction and groundwater treatment systems

OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training
