Your Opportunity

As a Mechanical Engineer you will work with guidance and direction on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials.

  • Performs Finite Element Analyses for the mechanical discipline using knowledge of relevant software programs.

  • Works with other engineering disciplines in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/ designer.

  • Performs field work as directed by a senior engineer/ designer.

  • Performs calculations to analyze and design mechanical systems using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.

  • Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.

  • Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.

  • Performs 3D CAD modeling and drafting of work product.

  • Work with contractors and client representatives to manage project activities at client’s facilities.

  • Provides mentoring and informal guidance to junior level staff, may assist in assigning tasks, providing coaching, and checking work.

  • Prepares proposals and fees in response to client requests.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Registered P.Eng in the province of Nova Scotia, or other province(s), is an asset.

  • Understanding of Finite Element Analysis and relevant software programs. Prefer experience with Solidworks Simulation.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.

  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.

  • Ability to take direction, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from senior engineers / designers.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Requires understanding of AutoCAD and 3D mechanical programs; Prefer experience with SolidWorks and/or Inventor.

  • Understanding of machine design, fabrication and manufacturing concepts.

  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing concepts.

  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Professional interpersonal skills with team members and clients.

  • Project management experience is an asset.

  • Client management experience is an asset.

  • Experience working with contractors is an asset.

  • Consulting engineering experience is an asset.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering & P.Eng. Industry experience of 4 years is preferred. Co-op/Internship experience preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather and operations at manufacturing facilities.
