The role of the Geologist is to perform environmental assessments, hydrogeological studies, subsurface investigations, remediation, and monitoring projects; sampling of soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater; oversight of subcontractors; production of maps; data interpretation/evaluation and deliverable preparation.
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsible for coordinating with subcontractors (such as analytical laboratories, private locators, and drillers) while performing office assignments
Performs field sampling observations and data collection assignments. These assignments will be performed under the direct supervision or guidance of more experienced field personnel.
Performs standard or routine calculations. May input data into and/or run standard or, in some cases, advance computer programs under supervision.
Complies information from reports and published documents. May, under limited supervision, evaluate or analyze the complied information following standard methods or specific instructions.
Under direct supervision of the project manager or senior staff, represents Stantec and interacts in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignments
Complete applicable company and client required health and safety training (including OSHA required training) and follow health and safety policies and procedures.
Follows established standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines to complete entry level and routine assignments.
Willingness to travel is preferred.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
40 hour HAZWOPER certification is desired
Proficient in policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training, and applies these policies and procedures as appropriate to their work
Basic knowledge of field sampling techniques
Skillful in technical writing
Shows initiative in integrating creativity and innovation in all work tasks
Exhibits strong attention to detail
Conscientious, organized and disciplined
Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships within their technical team and business center
Good driving record and valid driver’s license required
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geoscience, or related field.
Minimum 0-2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Majority of time spent in office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, or combination of office and field.
Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
